I'm seeing many files re-syncing, despite being Up-To-Date yesterday. Is this normal?

I had to install dropbox on my loaner computer at my job as my other one died.  I get home and my two home laptops show dropbox resyncing thousands and thousands of files.  I was just using these laptops yesterday to do my teaching work and they were all up to date.  I can't get anything done because the file is missing now or has the wrong version.   Teacher's nightmare!

I installed dropbox on two desktops in two different classrooms that I am in and this did not happen after that.  What is going on right now though?

More information
#1. It would be great  if you could clarify whether you’re working on a pc or Mac, please let me know in your next post. Following, could you have a look on your system tray/menu bar for the Dropbox icon? If you hover your mouse on it, it should display the Dropbox syncing status & the Dropbox version you’re working on. Can you confirm that you’re running the latest Stable version of the application on your desktop (79.4.143) for me? 
#2. When it comes to the syncing issue you're describing, can you let me know of any diagnostic messages appearing on the Dropbox icon on your system tray? Did these help you clarify what was happening perhaps? If syncing has been completed now, would you mind letting me know what's your current state? 
#3. Additionally, any visual aid you included on this message would be useful (omitting personal info), so as to better determine what's happening; please include any screenshots you may have on this discrepancy in your next message if possible.
