Moving Files From Old Folder to New Folder (Mac)

I'm running out of space on the startup drive on my Mac. I'd like to move the location of the folder to a separate drive (I see how to do that through Dropbox Preferences) and would like to move 88Gb from the old folder to the new folder.

Before I start, is this a smooth process?

Will the files automatically get transferred? Or will they ALL have to download to populate the new folder?

Does this affect other computers or mobile app?

Hey @Anthropy, while you can follow the steps outlined on this resource here to move the Dropbox folder under a different directory, it would be worth noting that we usually recommend avoiding external hard drives. That is to say, if the external hard drive is disconnected from the computer while Dropbox is running, there's a small—but real—chance that the app will start deleting files before realizing that the entire drive has been removed.
The transfer should be completed smoothly, however Dropbox will not be able to move some files to a new location if they’re currently being used by other applications. To get going with that, please close any applications that are accessing files in your Dropbox folder before the move. 
Last but not least, please note that this setting is device-specific & shouldn’t affect any other devices connected to your account.
