Re: "Open in Finder" and "Open in Word" not showing in Safari OSX for Mac

"Open in Finder" and "Open in Word" not showing in Safari OSX for Mac

Hey folks,

When viewing dropbox files from the Safari browser (Safari v 13.0) I can no longer see the "Show in Finder" or 'Open in Word" / "Open in Adobe Acrobat" options for files.

I also have Chrome installed on my Mac (v77.0.3865.90) and I can confirm that these DO work on Chrome. See pics below.

These items used to show in Safari, however it seems that after updating to Safari v13.0 this has stopped working.

Any ideas for resolution would be gratefully received as Safari is my default browser.

Cheers,

Scott

Hello Scott. Welcome to our Community!

As first -as I don't have Safari at handy right now- could you check if this happens on a private browsing window of Safari with no extensions or plugins running after you've cleared its cache first?

Let me know what you find and we'll take it from there @Scott H.

Hi Walter,

Thanks for your prompt reply and for your help.

Confirming that I have followed your instructions by emptying the Caches in Safari, disabled all extensions and opened a private browsing window.

Unfortunately this produces the same results - "Show in Finder" and "Open in Word" not displayed.

Thanks for the swift response too Scott - it's much appreciated.

As I'd like to dig a little deeper -and perhaps bring this under the attention of our experts- I just sent you a brief message to your Dropbox associated email address.

At your earliest convenience, please take a look at your inbox and we'll take it from there.

Thanks so much for your cooperation!

Hi folks,

I'm still looking for a solution to this. Dropbox Advanced Support sent an email suggesting that this is likely to be an issue with a piece of third party software, however I'm not sure why they say this, what it could be of how to start to troubleshoot to identify this..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!

I think this might have something to do with newest versions of Safari rigorously blocking Flash (which is required for the Open buttons to appear).

You could double check that you have Flash installed, then make sure it's enabled for www.dropbox.com in Safari settings. This used to work at least on the previous Safari version, haven't tested on the new 13.0.1 version though.

Thanks @Juunas  and @Walter  for your help. I've tried everything you suggested but am still having the issue.

Junnas - I've got Flash (ver32.0.0.255) installed and enabled for www.dropbox.com in nSafari settings. This used to work for me in previous Safari versions also but it seems not to be working in version 13.01 of Safari. Such a frustration.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi,

I just now had the time to test on Safari 13.0.1 and also couldn't get it working. Would be nice if there was a future-proof implementation in the works, since Flash is starting to be quite the legacy solution these days. Keeping my fingers crossed to see this back in the future.

Hi all,

So I've updated to Mac OS Catalina running Safari Version 13.0.2 (15608.2.30.1.1) and Dropbox v82.4.155 the issue still persists.

This issue affects my productivity workflow so i got a Mac Specialist to have a look at it for me. He is able to reproduce the error on his own machine and is unable to find a solution. Thinks it may be a bug in either Safari or Dropbox.

Additionally, I've just bought my daughter a Macbook Air and I am able to reproduce this same error on her device running Mojave and Safari 13.0 and also after upgrading to Mac OS Catalina running Version 13.0.2 (15608.2.30.1.1) & Dropbox v82.4.155.

So still no further ahead but I thought I'd post back here just in case this information is useful to anyone.

Scott
