Re: How can I edit and save Excel files locally on my computer with Dropbox?

How can I edit and save Excel files locally on my computer with Dropbox?

I have resumed working as a volunteer for a Probus group. We have a customised Excel spreadsheet containing some Visual Basic coding.

Last time I used this sheet on DropBox, (couple of years ago) I had the free Home version of DB and I open the online file directly to my PC, work online and save online. Now I have to download, amend, save, and then upload. I can't find where to download a desktop version. The DB online Excel doesnt run VB. Any clues?

Hey @billdata, thanks for posting to the Dropbox Community!

If you'd like to be able to access, edit and save Excel files (or any other files) on your computer directly to Dropbox, you can install the Dropbox desktop app.

Once the app is installed, it will create a "Dropbox" folder on your computer, which works just like any other folder, just with syncing abilities.

It will initially sync your Dropbox files to your computer and then any file you add to the folder will sync to your Dropbox account online and other linked devices.

You can read more about it and find a link to download it here.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you. I have done that, but my problem is that(because my excel file has vis basic code) it gives me this message: "xlsm files are supported but something went wrong". The web version of Excel won't work, whereas my installed Excel (on Win11). Can I Use my installed Excel  to open the Dropbox file (without "downloading-changing-saving-uploading"? That option is not available in the Dropbox options . Can you help, please?
