Re: What is CloudBox?

What is CloudBox?

I received an email from Dropbox no-reply@dropbox.com saying that I have connected a new app called 'CloudBox !' to my dropbox account. I have no idea what cloudbox is. Should I be concerned about this? I am using two step authentication requiring a text to be sent to my phone for logins, so as far as I know, noone should be able to access my data without me knowing, right?

CloudBox isnt an official app so have you tried googling it?

You can also unlink anything connected to your account that shouldnt be at www.dropbox.com/account

It could be a fishing email as well...

I just noticed that Cloudbox just 'appeared' linked to my Dropbox also. When I clicked on the info icon it advised me that Cloudbox has full access to all of my dropbox files. I have immediately unlinked it and have certainly not put it there. I can find little when I google it other than an Asian file storage website that I did not subscribe to. I think it's a big security concern for Dropbox. Furthermore, Dropbox didn't email me to say that it had been connected.

I have just discovered :-

CloudBox for DropBox - Windows Store Apps on Appfeds

www.appfeds.com › Apps › Productivity
CloudBox for DropBox is a free client app for Dropbox on Windows 8.1. CloudBox for DropBox lets you upload all your photos, docs, and videos. Access any file ...

So it's a third-party Dropbox client that you (or someone) installed on your computer and linked to your Dropbox account.

This is what it appears to be Rich however I am not conscious of purposely down loading it. I did however go to the Windows apps store and downloaded what I believed was a genuine Dropbox app for my Windows RT based  'Surface' tablet. During the downloading process and while I have been using the app on my surface, the word "CloudBox" has never appeared - until it did as a linked app in my account section of Dropbox. I find it a little strange and worrying as I don't recall downloading any app called CloudBox or CloudBox for Dropbox. That link I posted above to appfeeds doesn't appear to work either.

Rich's link was just a google search.

I wonder if you've actually always had CloudBox installed and they've just recently changed the name of the software via a recent update to say what it is?

Also, the name of the app in the Windows store doesn't have to match the name of the app that the developer has given to Dropbox...

Thanks guys, I hear what you are saying.  If I have inadvertently uploaded CloudBox then I guess more fool me !  In the Windows Store my download is portrayed as a Dropbox App with the Dropbox logo etc. I went through my entire history today on Dropbox. Although there was an entry advising me that I had removed the CloudBox App , there was no entry to say that I had ever linked a Cloudbox App to my account. Anyway, I hope I am not wasting you time. I believe that some malicious event has occurred whether by my ignorance of what has transpired or otherwise an unauthorized or tricky manipulation.

Yes - my mistake Mark, it wasn't a link that I posted but as you noted just a copy of a Google Search so that others in the forum could type in and search the same stuff - in order to see the result - despite the fact that the result is unproductive.
