Re: How do i get a password ofline and online for my dropbox folders

Hey there @Levyrafael - how are you today?

Would you mind elaborating on what you'd like to accomplish as I haven't understood from your initial inquiry?

If you'd like to put a password on your Dropbox folders, note that unfortunately, it's not possible to password protect Dropbox, or any of the folders inside. This is because Dropbox is not a network drive and the Dropbox software has no control over access to the folder. The Dropbox folder is just a normal folder and is no more or less secure than every other folder on your computer.

We recommend that you follow good security practices to protect your entire computer. It's a good idea to require a password to log in to your account, and to resume from sleep, screen savers and lock screens.

I hope this helps clarify matters to you and please let me know if you have any questions!

Hey walter, thanks for the answer.

what do you mean by good security practices?

For example someone broke into my house and stole my computer and cell phone so if he manage to break in to one of these devices he can also get inside my dropbox.

the only thing I could do is set dropbox so that when the thief connects the internet, dropbox will delete itself from the stolen device. it would have been much better if I had a password to the main drop box folder so that even if someone had stolen my computer or phone he cant get in my dropbox.

So is there a way to have a password on a folder?

To be frank, not with Dropbox @Levyrafael. You might want to set up 2 step verification as an additional layer of security to your account, yet, there's no way to protect your folders with a password through Dropbox (as your Dropbox Folder is another folder on your computer with syncing features; not a network drive)- there might be some 3rd party apps/services that offer this option, if needed indeed.

I get your point though so I'll be passing your comments on to our team. Thank you for your feedback.

If there's anything else I can do, please let me know.
