Some group folders in my dropbox are now empty

Level 2

I have noticed that some of the group folders now have no content. To the right i see i have access to edit but the folder was owned by one of the group members. How do I recover such files?

Hey there (@shush), as a first step, I’d suggest visiting your Deleted Files page for recent deletions & see if you can restore the files within your group folders following the steps outlined here. From there, kindly note that there is a 30-day window (or 120 days on a Business plan) when it comes to file recovery. While you’re viewing your Deleted Files page, you can use the dropdowns on the right to sort by location in your Dropbox account, where you’ll be able to get a detailed report of actions. What do you see there?

Please let me know of your findings in your next message here & I’ll follow-up with you as closely as possible. Thanks in advance!

Hello Jane, I cannot find any event and there are no recent deleted items. I think I need a fill account rollback as all my information in a particular folder are all deleetd. I have no idea what has happened and I need some information in one of those folders urgently. Please can you advsie how to proceed to get a full account rollback. Currently I have just a basic account.

To do a rollback you need the event log - and the files need to have been removed within 30 days. After that time scale they are unrecoverable (unless you are a paying user at the time of deletion at which point its 120 days).

Mark’s pointers are spot-on (@shush), since it seems that these deletions occurred a long time ago I’m afraid. To re-iterate my previous message, Dropbox can only restore files for 30 days after they're removed if you have a Basic account.

If you’re unable to determine how or whether a deletion has occurred in the first place, then maybe the shared folder Owner has removed your access from the content you’re trying to access, so I’d suggest reaching out to them directly in order to resolve this issue.

Hopefully my advice points you towards the right direction & please do let us know if you make any further progress on your end on this matter!
