Paper + BibTeX citation

Paper + BibTeX citation

Elixir
Super User

As Paper is improving towards a powerful collaboration tool, I would like to see this features in near future. For sceintific and academic writing, citation is an essential feature. It would be nice if Paper adopts to one of the most popular citation format BibTex. What paper need to implement is someting like this: in the text we need a citation field, say, "\cite{tag_journal_1}". And in the end of the text include the list of citaion with tag.

\begin{Bibliography}[Bibliography Style]

@tag_journal_1{

Author: author one, author two,

Title: This is Title,

Journal: Journal Name,

Vol: xx,

Pages: xxx

Year: 2018}

\end{Bibliography}

Good thing is that bibliography can be downloaded from most journals as above BibTex format, it is widely popular. Even better if Paper implements an universal citation manager where we can directly import citations, and insert into any Paper document.

Hey there @Elixir - thanks for using Paper and sharing your creative ideas! :nerd:

I'm passing your comments along to the Paper's dev team for consideration.

If there's anything else I can do for you in the meantime, do let me know and keep those great ideas and suggestions coming! :wink:

Hi,

Can you please add *.org / *.bib / *.tex  to the list of associated plain text files.

This would enable people who use Emacs org-mode and use BibTex Bibliographies and LaTeX files to view them in preview and or make small edits on the move.

Obviously I'm not expecting any fancy syntax highlighting or anything of that nature but just an association so that Dropbox knows they are plain text files would be helpful.

Thanks

Hi there @petemcd18!

Although currently these are not previewable file types, I’d be more than happy to pass your comments along to the dev team for future consideration.

In the mean time, if you have any other comments you’d like me to forward or if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to get back to me. Cheers! :grin:

Thanks Lusil,

Can you also add *.el (e-lisp) to the list to be associated with plain text files.

Thanks

Pete

Hey there @malshar - thanks for using Paper!

We do support the use of LaTeX on Paper and to trigger LaTeX editing mode, just type $$ in your doc. You can then type full LaTeX symbols in Dropbox Paper. When you're finished typing, you can render the code by pressing Enter or Return on your keyboard.

In regards to using BibTex within Paper, I've passed your comments on to our team as a feature request - thank you for your feedback!

[I also moved your post under the thread that first brought this under my radar to keep things neat within our forums.]

Let me know if there's anything else I can assist with from my end and I will be happy to help.

It probably won't help much, but as an another emacs user, I would like to also petition for these file types to be associated with plain text and visible on the apps and website.

Me too, not being able to view the .org files stored on my Dropbox is a major annoyance for me...
