Record audio to Paper eg. voice memo

Paper is becoming more and more a Evernote killer for me! And that's a good thing as I would like to simplify my workflow.

One of the main missing features for me is the ability to instantly add a voice memo into a document.

For me it is mainly used for music ideas but I know people use it for everything from brainstorming sessions to interviews and whatnot...

I am using Paper to edit a novel written by a person who has limited use of her hands, so being able to add a voice comment to a doc would help her. She could, of course, use speech-to-text to dictate a comment but then the transcription is always imperfect. Currently, she sends me voice mails via Google Voice, so I can listen to them, but it would be easier for both of us if she could simply record a comment from within Paper.

Hey @fr & @peytonstafford - thanks for you input on this - I appreciate you taking the time to submit it here.

As we do collect and track actively all feedback requests to inform ongoing development of Paper, I've put your request for an option to insert a voice memo or comment to a Paper doc on our list.

Thanks for using Dropbox and keep the creative energy flowing! Have a lovely weekend.

Thanks, Walt, I hope you can implement this. Not only for my use case, but for some others

  • @fr musicians and people in the music industry who need to add the music to a comment without taking time to write it down in tablature
  • people with heavy accents or speech issues, such as stuttering, that voice-to-text software cannot decifer.
  • people who are writing in one language, i.e., English, while commenting in another, i.e., Deutsch, Francoiśe, etc.
  • very young students, i.e., if a kindergarten teacher has her students creating a book in Paper, but most of the kids cannot type but they can talk. They could add their comments and not be hindered by the keyboard.

Cheers,

Peyton

Thank you for the additional info on this one Peyton ( @peytonstafford) - these scenarios all make sense to me!

While I cannot promise anything at this point, as mentioned, I am letting the team know and your elaborate response helps a bit more to provide the most accurate feedback to them.

Should you have any other ideas or suggestions, you know where to post them winking face

Thanks for using Paper and helping us to improve it. Cheers!

Like WhatsApp.

Would come in handy for me as I am often thinking faster as I can write or to be more realistic, when I am lazy or in stress.

Hi @NinoK, thanks for your idea!

I'd love to know more about it!

Do you mean something similar to voice notes on Whatsapp?

Or were you thinking of transcribing your audio to text?

Or something else entirely?

Recording audio straight to Dropbox Paper while editing a document would be very nice to have. I use Paper to transcribe meetings and I use a separate app for the recording. Using Paper to record and embedd a sound file to be playable directly in Paper could be awesome!
