How can I backup my computer with Dropbox instead of iCloud?

How can I backup my computer with Dropbox instead of iCloud?

Hi

I have just purchased DROPBOX PLUS with the intention of backing up my MAC but when I go through the set up I get a message saying that I should "stop iCloud back up first" but when I look at turning iCloud backup off it says that turning this off will remove all the files from the MAC so I am confused and scared.

Is there any guidance on how to move from iCloud back up to Dropbox back up for people like me?

Many thanks

Steve

Hi @SteveKJ, thanks for messaging the Community!

The Dropbox service isn't used to backup your Mac. Only certain folders can be enabled for backing up to the site, not the entire Mac.

The iCloud service also backs up the same folders that Dropbox Backup wants to backup, which is why you're getting this message. Having two services backing up folders could lead to issues syncing, and possibly data corruption and deletion.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

Thanks for your reply Jay,

How do I stop backing up these folders in iCloud and start using Dropbox as it says if I turn off iCloud back up I will loose the files so I cannot proceed. This is advertised as being easy but I cannot understand how to do this. Is there a guide or video?

Thanks

Steve

As this is related to iCloud, this article from Apple might help you out.
