No idea why.

I joined a team's account for a client - but have now lost control of my own dropbox account!.

I want to go back to where I was before, how do I move out of this TEAMS thing and go back to my old account?

When you accepted the invitation from your client you merged your account into their team account, effectively making them the owner of your account. In order to leave the team, the team admin needs to convert your account back to an individual account. It's important that they don't just remove you from the team as doing so would delete your account. If that were to happen, the team admin only has seven days to restore your account.

Only the team admin can do this. You can't do it yourself, and Dropbox can't assist either. You need to talk to the team admin.
