I thought I had changed my email on dropbox but apparently hadn't. While I was disctracted on the phone I told it to just log in with my google account with my new email and it set up a new account. Now if I log in to change my email it says that my other email is being used. If I delete the new account will that allow me to use the new email? I no longer have access to the old email and I need to get this changed but all my files are associated with the old one.

Hi @dmoncla, thanks for messaging the Community!

If you delete the new account completely, then the email would be freed up in order for you to rename the old account to the new email.

Please make sure you're signed into the correct account before you delete it, as this is permanent and files cannot be recovered from deleted accounts.

Keep me updated with any progress!

Thank you. I'll try it and hope it works. Just didn't want to attempt it incase it still locked the new email out.

Jay, new to this forum.  I have similar problem.  So, if I delete account that has essentially no data, then I can RENAME the account where the majority of my stuff is with that email??  Since I just renewed and paid for the account I'm about to delete, will that trigger a refund??..then, it just so happens you're asking me to refresh my payment source on the other account, which I'll gladly do.

Hi @a1tiguy, deleting a Dropbox account doesn't necessarily trigger any form of refund on that account.

I'd recommend contacting the support team directly for them to assist on this matter.

Hello,

I've had a similar issue arise but once I deleted the new account it is still saying that the email is taken when I try to change the old account. Does it take a certain amount of time for the email to free up?

Hey @mirlorraine, thanks for reaching out to us.

Can you let us know the exact error message you got when you tried to create a new account under that email address?

Also, were you previously perhaps a member of a Dropbox Business team with that account?
