Move files shared by others to a different account

Move files shared by others to a different account

Background:

  • We have a free Dropbox account (2GB) associated with a personal email address
  • We have a paid account (2TB) associated with a Gmail address.
  • Both these accounts have material shared with us by other people.

Objective:

  • A single paid account associated with the personal email address

Question:

  • What is the easiest way of doing this? In particular
    • Can it be done without having to contact all the Owners of shared information and asking them to reshare?
    • Can it be done without having to have pay for two accounts?

Thanks in advance

Maybe. You can't transfer a share from one account to another. The other account needs to be invited. If the owner of the share has it set so members can invite other people, then you can simply send an invite to your other account. If not, then the owner will need to send the new invitation.

Yes, you just need a third email address. Change the email address on the free account to a new, third email address. This will free up your personal email address so it can be used on another account. Once the change is complete, sign in to the paid account and change the email address to your personal address. Make sure you verify both email addresses so you don't lock yourself out of the account down the road.

OK, thanks. I will need to check this out as these are my wife's accounts. But it sounds promising.

And on the email addresses, great idea. I think we have a spare one lying around we can use for this.

Thanks very much!
