Re: Two Dropbox accounts under the same email

Two Dropbox accounts under the same email

I have a Dropbox account through my university at an .edu email. I noticed that when other collaborators shared files with me, they wouldn't show up in my .edu Dropbox account. Instead, Dropbox kept telling me to create an account to access these shared files. So I ended up creating another Dropbox account with the same .edu email, so now I have two accounts with the same email. Ideally I just want all files to end up in my university Dropbox account, but I don't know why they're not showing up/why I need to create another basic account. What is the issue here?

Hey @shong7, you mentioned Box, and it's important to note that Box and Dropbox are two different companies.

Is your university sharing content with you on Dropbox or Box?

It's not possible have two accounts using the same email address. Dropbox actively prevents this when registering an account. If you try to create an account using an email address that's already in use with another account, you get a message stating that the email is already taken.

If you're still able to access both account, double check the email address used on each one; they're likely different.

I don't want to put my email address out on the internet, but I'm not sure how to prove otherwise that I do have two accounts with the same email. This may be because one is on the traditional Box website, and the other is hosted via my university. After I tested it out a few times today, it seems like the issue is that when email addresses outside of my university attempt to share files, it won't show up in my university Box account. Not sure why.
