I'd like to find the email address of those uploading to a File Request I've created.

I have created a file request for my clients to upload files to a folder. Dropbox captures the name and email address of the person uploading the file and renames the appends the file name with the users name great!  But, how do I find the email address of the person who uploaded the file, this is captured when the user uploads but I can't see where it is stored in Dropbox and can't see it in the activity log or on the individual file.   Therefore I have no way of contacting the individual

Re: I'd like to find the email address of those uploading to a File Request I've created.

Hey @Alan5, thanks a lot for posting your inquiry on our Community, I’ll try to answer your question in the best possible way, so as to help you track your File Requests Activity!

For starters, you may keep in mind that I’ve moved your post into a new conversation, in order to address your concern anew, as the thread you had posted under was an earlier discussion.

As an initial point of reference, can you confirm that you’re on a Dropbox Business Standard plan Alan & you’re granted admin permissions? (I’m merely asking, as you had initially posted under the Business section, though please do let me know if this is not the case.) If so, you may keep in mind that you’ll have the Received Files via file request  filter that could be helpful in tracking the email addresses you’d like to gather.

On the other hand, if you’re using a personal account, please note that there isn’t currently a way to track the email addresses of file contributors. That being said, please note that you may find where your files are stored in Dropbox if you go to your File requests> go to the file request you’d like to have a closer look into> click on it & it will redirect you to the folder all the contributions are stored. If you go to the top & slightly left-hand corner, you’ll see the entire path to the folder once you click on the arrow inside  the folder (as below).
At this point, let me quickly clarify that file Activity is different than the team Activity you may track in the admin console. In the Activity tab of each individual file, you can see who performed an action and when the action happened. This includes when a file is:

  • Added
  • Edited
  • Moved
  • Renamed
I hope that my reply above includes the info you were looking for & please do let me know if I have misunderstood your inquiry or you’d like me to explain any of the above in a bit more detail. Wishing you a wonderful Friday ahead!

Re: I'd like to find the email address of those uploading to a File Request I've created.

Thanks for getting back to me.  Let me clarify.  My Account is Personal Plus.

So my understanding from your reply is that I can't capture the email addresses of users using the File Request Feature?

If I upgrade..Please tell me what I need to upgrade to?, I may be able to capture the email addresses of each file upload?  Would that include a Zappier Trigger for capturing the email address and passing it to Mailchimp subscribers list?

Re: I'd like to find the email address of those uploading to a File Request I've created.

Thanks a lot for circling back to me on this discussion here clarifying in more detail, now I have a much better understanding of what’s happening!

Your assumption is right Alan, hence you won’t be able to see this piece of info while on a personal account (though I appreciate your interest on this functionality & I’d happily transfer your comments on to our team specialists for future reference). If this feature is important to you & you may consider upgrading to a Business plan, you could contact our Sales team, though please note that our Business plans come with a minimum of 3 seats.

Now, when it comes to your inquiry below:

Would that include a Zappier Trigger for capturing the email address and passing it to Mailchimp subscribers list?

can you please let me know how Dropbox comes into play when you’re using these two applications, so as to further advise?

Thanks again & I'm looking forward to hearing back from you on this discussion!
