Retrieve a dropbox file created by another person who wants to share it with me

A friend with a gmail account wants to share with me a big file containing pictures and videos (about 50GB). He sent me only a text message giving me the file name he created in dropbox. What do I have to do to retrieve the file? Do I need to receive an invitation via gmail or dropbox directly to access the file or it is not necessary? Thanks.

Hey there (@ST67), as you’ve mentioned that your friend does have a Dropbox account (& the available space to store their photos & videos), then your best bet would be asking them to send you a View-only shared link 🔗 to the content (which doesn’t take up any space on your account online). Anything added will be reflected on your end as well, so you’ll also be able to see any changes they make. 

In order for you to get the link on your end, please ask them to paste it on your email correspondence, message &c.
