Using a free account to view/edit files shared from a business account

My boss has a business account and wants to share various folders and documents with my free account, but it seems I have limitations on space so am unable to view things he has shared with me. I know space is limited for the desktop version with a free account, but thought as long as I was using the web version, space wouldn't be an issue. Do I need a business account? Thanks!

Re: Using a free account to view/edit files shared from a business account

Depends on your needs @Kaitlin - if you need to access AND EDIT these files and folders you'll need to have the space to accommodate them too since shared folders count towards all members' quota.

If you just need to view (and maybe download) these files only, you can have them share a link to the said files or folders with you (you won't be able to edit in this case).

If you need to work on those files and have your boss see your edits, you can have them open up a file request to which you'll be then able to upload files after having worked on them.

If you are interested in sharing a quota pool between multiple users, we do have a Dropbox Business subscription (in which case you can have your boss invite to the team) and, if needed, you can read more about Dropbox Business on our website here:

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any questions.
