What protection against brute force (or other) attacks are there for password-protected shared links

So, if I send out a shared link for a file that contains sensitive information, is that shared link protected from brute force (or other) attack? For example, does the link expire after x failed attempts? Or is there a required delay after x failed attempts?

Hey there @frogandtoad - thanks for reaching out.

I have to admit this is a great question as you had me testing it out to get a concrete answer.

Here's what I found in this case: after my initial ~15 attempts (failed ones) to access a password protected shared link, I got prompted with a new error message (i.e. not the initial 'wrong password' one) and it reads 'Too many attempts' at which point I wasn't even able to access the shared link in question even with the correct password as I was still getting the same error ("too many attempts").

I even went an extra step and tried the same link on an incognito window (without being logged into any account) and found that the 'too many attempts' error persisted for about 15 minutes even when I tried with the right password. After that point I was able to re-attempt accessing the link in question normally.

I hope this information helps and please let me know if you have any more questions!
