Editor access to shared folder and want to delete files

Level 3

Hello -  a client shared their Dropbox folders and provided way more info than I require and it pushed me to the next level of Dropbox subscription. I don't need this much storage so I'm wondering if I delete the files from the shared folder that I don't need, will this delete the files from her account as well? I obviously don't want that to happen but there is a lot of confidential stuff I don't want access to either.

She shared to me as an editor. "x invited you to edit the folder "xyz" on Dropbox."

Thanks!!!

Hey there @kfort1234  - how are you today?

The files you delete from shared folders, will be deleted for all members of the shared folder in question.

If you'd like to avoid this, you can ask them (i.e. your client) to share a link to the folder instead as this would give you view-only rights and you wouldn't need the additional space to accommodate it in your account. See below for more information:

If you'd like to then upload the files after you have edited them (if needed that is), you can utilize our file requests feature. Read on for more information:

If you want to remove a shared folder from your account without affecting other members, you can remove your access to it. Please see our Help Center for instructions:

https://www.dropbox.com/help/files-folders/unshare-folder

I hope this information helps and please keep me posted on your progress!

Hello Walter, I am great, how are you?

Thanks for the information. I obviously don't want to delete their files. Is there a way for me to change my own access?

Unfortunately this client is takes time to respond and I know this request would likely take them quite some time to address and amend.

I'm great as well @kfort1234 - thanks for asking!

In this case, you can leave the folder in question following the steps outlined in the following Help Center article:

https://help.dropbox.com/files-folders/leave-shared-folder

Keep me in the loop please!

Is there a way to test this out? I'm leery of deleting my shared access and restoring it.

Or is there a Dropbox support telephone number I can call to walk through this with?

The best way to test things out would be to create a dummy shared folder and chek how each option works out @kfort1234

As per your last inquiry, note that phone support is currently available to admins on Dropobx for Business plans - not individual accounts.
