Storage Space

Hello to all,
Here are the facts: in July, my Dropbox basic package was upgraded to Dropbox Plus without me wanting it. I saw this operation and I stopped this package.
The plan expired in August and now I receive an email from Dropbox telling me that the storage limit will be reduced from 2TB to 2GB. The problem here is that I had accumulated 5.5GB of storage space.
I have read that some storage extensions have a time limit, but that was not the case here. I would like to make sure that I get the 5.5 GB of storage back. How can I be sure?
Thank you for your assistance.

Whatever space you had before the upgrade, you'll have when the account is downgraded at the end of the current billing period.
This is what I hope for, but the message we receive from Dropbox is quite confusing.
Thanks for the answer.
