Dropbox disk usage number seems to be incorrect

Dropbox disk usage number seems to be incorrect

My local Windows Dropbox is fully synced with my online Dropbox.  Windows Explorer file | properties says my Dropbox folder is 9.3 GB.  And on dropbox.com, at "All files", I turned on the "size" column and did a "calculate size" on each folder, and they all add up to that same 9.3GB. So far, so good.

However, when I click on my account profile picture on dropbox.com, it tells me I am using 13.61 GB! Why the 4 GB discrepancy?  And how do I get my account to report my usage as the correct 9.3 GB. See this screenshot:

Thanks, - Ken

Hey @Ken G.4, thanks for posting on our Community and sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

Could you please let me know what exactly is reported in your account's plan tab in regards to your quota?

Also, have you checked your selective sync settings through the app's preferences to see if there are any un-synced folders?

Let me know what you find!

@Walter, (How do I tag you? Simply typing the @ sign doesn't seem to do it)

Thanks for the prompt reply.  My Plan tab says I'm using 13.6GB of my 21.62GB quota. And it says: "Regular files 11.7GB, Shared files 1.9GB, Unused 8GB." https://www.dropbox.com/s/85lvx09a5ghpmrq/Dropbox%20Plan%20Tab.png?dl=0

And my Sync settings confirm that I'm syncing everything: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ra114u9y6eofxs3/Sync%20Tab.png?dl=0

So, the 11.7 + 1.9 would indeed be 13.6.  However, both Windows Explorer and dropbox.com report that I only have 9.3 GB of data, total.  So I don't understand the 11.7 "regular" nor the additional 1.9 "shared".

Note: I'm a lifelong software engineer, so I'm happy to continue providing any further debugging info needed...

Thanks,

- Ken

Are you using the backup feature? If so, you'll have more space used in your account then you would see being used on your computer. For the space used by shared files, check your Shared page.
