I have Dropbox plus, so I should have 2TB of space.
I've shared a folder with a friend to upload some GoPro footage so I can edit it however it keeps telling them the folder is full, assuming it's using their own storage.

What can I do so my friend is using my storage from the folder that I am the owner of instead of their own?

It IS using their own storage. They don't get access to your paid storage. When they're uploading files to a shared folder, they're not uploading them to you. They're uploading them into a folder within their own account, that happens to be shared with you. They need to have enough storage within their own account to hold whatever is in the shared folder.

Use a file request. They'll be able to upload directly to your account, though they won't be able to access the files after they upload them. It's a true drop box.
