Hi Guys,

My local Windows Dropbox is fully synced with my online Dropbox.  Windows Explorer file/properties shows my Dropbox folder is 576 MB but to my surprise, dropbox.com and dropbox app both say my dropbox is full. I have checked the plan tab and found my regular file size is 3.4 GB which is not correct. My shared folder only takes less than 100 MB. What is going on here? Why the discrepancy? Any inputs?

Thanks,

Tao

Hi @Jay, thank you. I have calculated the size of the shared folders in my Dropbox folder and they do not exceed the quota. The shared files folder size is 850MB. The quota for the Basic account is 2GB so I don't think this is the problem this time.

The problem I have is that I moved other large folders out of Dropbox on my Mac computer when I got the message that my account was full, but they still show in my Dropbox account when I log in online. I don't understand why my Dropbox online account shows a different list of folders than my desktop. So my online account still shows old folders there even though I moved them out from my desktop app.

Before writing this post, I removed heavy files, quit Drobbox, deinstalled it, and reinstalled it on my Mac computer.

The file size of my entire Dropbox folder on my desktop shows as under 1GB on my desktop. However, it shows as over 2GB on Drobbox.com. So basically, my desktop is not syncing with my online account. The files I deleted today show as deleted on my desktop, but they are not deleted from my Dropbox.com online account. I assume they need to show as removed from my online account in order to ensure I am under the 2GB quota, but I already removed them from my desktop, and I don't want to do anything to confuse Dropbox further.

Can you or anyone help explain why my online account is still full when my desktop isn't? Many thanks!

Have you calculated the size of your private folders on the Dropbox site? Do you have any particularly large files there?

Hi Jay, thank you.

Yes, I have calculated the size of my private folders, they are not over the limit. Here's the issue:

My Dropbox account went over the 2GB limit when my colleague shared a large folder with me. Until then I only had private folders in my account and I had not exceeded the 2GB limit.

In order to clear space, I moved two very large folders (both over 500MB each) out of Dropbox in one go from my desktop Dropbox app on my mac, and saved them to my iCloud account instead.

These folders how to show in my iCloud account and show as removed from my Dropbox desktop app on my computer.

However, I still get a message saying my Dropbox account is full.

When I log in to Dropbox.com online (rather than using my desktop app) the large private folders that I moved to iCloud from my desktop still show in Dropbox, even though they show as removed on my desktop. So my account is still over the quota according to Dropbox even though I removed the files via my Dropbox desktop app. Why arent my desktop app and Dropbox.com account syncing?

I assume I have to remove the folders from Dropbox.com rather than from my desktop, but I didn't want to do that to avoid a further mess with my Dropbox account before checking and asking for help.

My basic question is: is the only way to clear files from Dropbox to do it by logging in online rather than using a desktop app? Why isnt my desktop showing the same files as my online Dropbox login?

Thank you!

IS the Dropbox desktop application running and syncing as normal, in order for the deletion to sync to the site?

What message do you get when you hover over the Dropbox icon in the menu bar?

Hey @Mika2, thanks for replying here.

Jay had previously asked you if you'd like us to send you an email, so we can investigate this further.

Is the @Rubydel account yours as well? And if so, which account is having this issue? The one connected to the @Mika2 or the @Rubydel profile?

Hello
I use a dropbox basic account. At one point, even though I had a volume of files of only 1.8 Gb, I was notified that the account was full. I deleted the files I didn't need, but no space is freed up.
I deleted all the files, but then no space was freed.
Practically, although I have not uploaded anything, the account looks 90% full.
I disconnected all the devices, I deleted the cache memory, but it does not update.
please help
