New to Dropbox--Accessing Shared Files

New to Dropbox--Accessing Shared Files

I'm new to Dropbox and don't have any files in my account.  However, I'm trying to access a shared file and dropbox won't let me gain access to it until I buy more space.  Any suggestions why I have to buy space when all I doing is looking at a shared file?  Thanks!

When you accept a shared folder you receive a COPY of the folder which remains in sync with the original. The files exist in your account taking up space, so you need enough space in your account to hold the folder.

If all you need to do is view the files within the folder, ask the owner to send you a shared link to the folder instead.
