I have an SSD with 0.92tb of storage which is 99% backed on dropbox, but DP keeps updating 600 000 files and counting, 2+tb... i have no clue what is happening. It makes no sense. Please help!

Hey @tonysignal, sorry to hear about this.

Can you please send us a screenshot of the app's exact status and version as shown in your menu bar/system tray?

Have you rebooted your computer at all since you first noticed this?

Also, do you see the content of your SSD on this page

Any additional information is more than welcome!

Hi, thanks for your response. Screen Shot 2022-12-05 at 7.39.49 PM.pngScreen Shot 2022-12-05 at 7.46.38 PM.png

I am able to see my files in the backups page, and as you can see, it indicates that the backup is done.

My guess is that all the files are also being saved to the dropbox server, allowing me to access them from my different devices, although i only have 2 specific items selected for offline access. As i mentioned in the original post, it started updating 600 000 files+, now down to 150 000.

Thank you!

Thanks for the screenshots @tonysignal - much appreciated!

May I ask if you have this drive plugged into your computer all the time?

Also, is the syncing progressing or is it stuck at the same number of files?

Hi, my pleasure.

Yes the drive is always plugged in, it's my main work drive.

The number is progressing slowly towards 200 000 as of now.

Hi @tonysignal, the backup of an external drive does require a little bit of space on the main hard drive for the files to be processed by the Dropbox desktop application.

How much free space do you have on the internal drive?

Hi @Jay

I am aware that some space is used on the internal drive, however this is well above the total amount of used storage of my drive...

I currently only have 1.17 GB of internal storage left. I know this is quite alarming, is it due to having 170 GB of Other storage. I've been meaning backup everything and reboot my Macbook to rectify this issue.

What is the current syncing status of the app?

Have you changed the bandwidth settings to no limit?
