Unrequested 4TB backup - "Dropbox full"

Unrequested 4TB backup - "Dropbox full"

So, bad enough Dropbox is relentless in trying to upsell everyone to a Pro account - I get it; part of using the free level is you tune it out.

So that's why I thought nothing about it when you just temporarily upgraded me, without my consent. I had no intention of using the extra space, and didn't.

And it's also why I kept ignoring all the increasingly frantic "don't let yourself be downgraded!!!!!!!" warnings - I'm content with my 1.5 GB Dropbox usage.

So imagine my surprise when I was informed "Your Dropbox is full," and my online account showed 2.49 GB, while I still had the same 1.5 GB in files from before. Rebooted and everything, no joy.

I find my way out here, and find *a lot* of people with the same issue today, and the tech support pretty clueless and offering non-useful half-solutions.

Well, one of them involved checking Backup, and what should I discover but that, during the Pro -motion I didn't accept, Dropbox decided to start backing up one of my 4TB external drives, something I never would have attempted.

Okay, finally got that sorted, things are back to normal, but just deciding to start backing up everything in my computer without my say-so - especially so you can panic me into upgrading - is extremely bad form.

Even now, in my Preferences, that drive is still listed (although I've turned "Automatically back up drive" off) - there seems to be no way to turn off this "feature" and keep Dropbox syncing the Dropbox folder only and not rummaging through the rest of my system.

Hey @DavidHeizer, sorry to hear about this.

Can you please clarify if you deleted the backup of this hard drive from this page

Also, is the drive still mounted on your computer?

If you could send us a screenshot of the app's preferences as well, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!
