Why file uploaded on one account diminish space on the account people you share with?

Hello to everyone,
I’m a user on free plan (9,9 GB available forever).
A pro user with many TB available shared a 9GB folder with me that is exceeding the remaining space on my account. He uploaded on his account, he has space. Why the space diminished on my account also?
Is it how Dropbox works or we did something wrong in sharing the files?

Hi @LeoneFM

That is how Dropbox works - shared folders use the space and quota of everybody within the share.

Do you need edit access? If so you'll need to get more quota.

If not ask for a shared link instead 🙂
