I had to format my hard disk.
I have made a backup of my dropbox folder (wich has lots of files).
I tried to put the backup files in the new dropbox folder, after installed it but it doesn't work and gives sync errors for several folder (even if I have the dropbox installed only in this computer).
Now, I am syncing again with the server but it's taking forever. The Dropbox icon status is "starting..." All the time. It is downloading the files slow, but dropbox crashes several times a day and I have to restart it.
I have a plan with 1 TBytes of space and I am using something like 200 G.
After 2 days, I have only 29 G of files downloded.
I already have configured to have my network without limits.
I also am using the computer at my work, where the network speed is 100 M, and the problem is the same: slow and crashes.
Obs: while Iwas writing this, the local dropbox folder was at 29.4 G and didn't increased.
Hey there @ssaguiar - sorry to hear about that!
Have you checked this article which addresses most causes for high CPU usage?
While we're at it, how many files does your account contain if I may ask?
I'm only asking becasue the performance of the Dropbox desktop app can decline if you have more than 300,000 files synced to your computer. This is a soft limit and depends highly on the hardware specifications of the computer running the app. Some customers can sync more files without issue.
If that's the case, I'd suggest to speed up your Dropbox by using selective sync which lets you control which files and folders are being synced with your computer. Remember that if you’re having trouble accessing your files right now because of selective sync issues, your files are safe and accessible on dropbox.com.
I hope this information helps to some extent and please keep me posted on your progress.

I'm having the same problem. After installing the latest rev of Mojave on my MacBook the Dropbox app apparently wouldn't load. I followed the advanced uninstall (have done that twice). A dialog box came up the second time and I had the chance to deselect almost everything. Now activity monitor shows that Dropx is using a lot of CPU time and a lot of threads but after over 2 days it's still running. The app icon still hasn't appeared so I can't delink my MacBook from the cloud. I just tried opening the app on my iMac, alo running Mojave, and it wouldn't show the app but it loaded and started to burn CPU and really slow down my system. I had to manually kill it. Is there a solution other than going to my Windows machine and manually transerring all of my file to iCloud. I like Dropbox but this is crazy. The integration with Finder is cool but the ability to delink and perform other functions is not.
I have made an update from the free dropbox to this one, with 1TBytes of storage so I can have my projects, opictures and other files saved (backup).
I really have more than 500,000 files to sync, but what is the point to have such system, as Dropbox, if it won't work. Why it doesn't work one group files at the same time?
I don't mind to wait a little bit more if it works.
It's worse if I just can't have my files back.
Another thing, why I just can't put my files back in dropbox folder ?
I have a backup of them, but got several errors when I tried to do so.
No way to make it work
I just reinstaled my windows
My machine have a 1T samsung ssd hard disk, 32 Gigas of Ram, i7 3 GHz.
I am conected to a 100/100 Megas network lan (by ethernet).
No way to make this work.
As soon as I add files / folders, if the total size is bigger, it stops working.
I already removed dropbox (full removed, including registry entries).
Reinstalled Dropbox.
Changed the folder from c:\Dropbox to the default one (as in the installation).
I think I will try MS One Drive or pCloud.
it's a shame that we spend money in such a product and there is no way to make it work.

Sorry but the fact is that Dropbox is incapable to work with large sets of files.
The program (windows app) crashes everytime. It start with a status of "starting" and keeps that way untill it crashes. I tried several times to totally unisntall and reinstall it, but it doesn't work at all.
Now, I am trying to synchronize fewer files / folders at a time.
It's simple: the developpers of the app should work on some kind of limit the number for the files to upload / download, at a time. Also, the files wich can be compressed should be, on upload and download, sparing bandwidth (I supose it doesn't work that way).
Maybe the crash happens when trying to index files: again, programmer's fault. Why? Because iDrive and pCloud works, even taking days to sync the huge number of files.
I don't understand why you offer a premium plan with 1T and another with 2T of storage if the client will be unable to download their files in the case they have a crash of their hard disk.
I can tell this because, at this moment, I am synchronizing my files with iDrive wich NEVER had a crash.
I will keep trying to use Dropbox (even because I have lost my money).
