Tool For Finding Empty Folders

Level 2

Does anyone out in DropBox Land know of a quick/easy way to identify which folders in a file structure are empty? Our org has been using DropBox for a decade and I believe there's a whole lot of empties out there that could be deleted to make our file structure easier to navigate. I'd rather not have to click through files one-by-one.

Many Thanks.

Re: Tool For Finding Empty Folders

Hey there @AviK - how are you today?

Have you tried this on our website at

When on your account's homepage (on the Files tab from the left-hand pane), you can click on the middle column's header and set it to sort your folders and files by size.

Note that this value can be set to sort your files by:

1. Size

2. Members

3. Type

4. Extension

5. Modified (date)

[Pro tip: You can even select all (Ctrl+A) and sort by size to see your whole structure's size values. Just note that it won't work if you select individual files along with folders.]

Should you need to, you can also calculate the size of folder(s) by selecting them (click on the box to the left of the file names to do so) and then click on the 'Calculate size' button from the right-hand pane.

These would be the ways to clarify which exact folders within your team's file structure are empty indeed.

The team's admin(s) have additional options to do this via their Admin Console under the 'Team Folders' tab (if on our old structure of our team accounts) or under the 'Content' tab (if on the new structure).

I hope this information helps and please keep me posted on your progress!
