Re: Long PDFs not viewing properly

Long PDFs not viewing properly

Whether on Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and making sure not to include any extensions or plug-ins, I’ve also tried to open the PDF in a New Private Window, and clearing the cache, and disabling all plug-ins; they are all behaving the same; the graphics in the PDF are still looking blurred. The resolution is 1080 × 13071 which is way less than Dropbox' limit.

As a designer of long scrolling newsletters and webpages filled with graphics, I'm afraid I'm not able to share my work with my clients for their review. It's quite an inconvenience.

Is anyone experiencing the same?

Hi @AS75, since this looks to be closely related to the size of the PDF, I'll forward your feedback to the appropriate areas so we can improve how this works.

Have a lovely weekend ahead,enjoy!

Hi @AS75, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Since the file appears to be incredibly large, this is most likely why it's unreadable on the site, since it has to shrink the file preview for it to be viewable.

If you have them download the PDF directly from the shared link, they'll be able to preview it normally in their own PDF viewer.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

Hello Jay, what do you mean by incredibly large, the file is only 13Megapixels. As far as I know, Dropbox can handle up to 50Mp, right? thx

Hi @AS75, depending on the file size, it could go up to 50, correct.

What is the type of the graphics in the PDFs that you're looking at? Do you have a screenshot of how the content previews when you try to open it using a PDF viewer, versus online on Dropbox?

Hi Megan,

The type of graphics is web design, newsletter design, etc..

Attached is a screenshot of a long PDF seen on both Dropbox and Preview.

By large, I meant that it was quite a long file 'physically', which could affect the preview on the site.

If you split the PDF into individual pages, does the preview improve on the site?

Yes absolutely, Jay. The longer it is the blurrier it gets. Do you think that is something that could be fixed sometime soon on Dropbox?

Sorry to jump in here, @AS75.

If you open the file on our website and hover over it to bring up the black bar, where it has the zoom %, can you please click that and see if toggling between "zoom to fit" and "view actual size" makes any difference?

Hello Hannah, I just tried that. Nothing happens. The same blurriness.

Thanks!
