I've got a 2 TB paid account and it's synced across a couple of different Apple silicon computers and have updated to the Apple Silicon version on all of them. On my M1 Pro 14 inch MBP the DropBox folder is still located at ~/DropBox, that one was originally running the Intel version of the DropBox app and got upgraded when the Apple silicon one came out. On my Mac Studio…which was migrated from an Intel iMac and then when it was upgraded the DropBox folder was relocated to ~/Library/CloudStorage/DropBox. The Studio is participating in the beta experience (not sure how, don't remember turning this on at all) and the MBP is not.
I've got plenty of disk space so have set both of these to download everything locally and sync all folders and sub folders…but have a couple of issues. I also have LAN sync enabled.
1. Some files aren't syncing at all…in particular ones that were originally created on the Mac Studio…these never show up on the MBP which has the DropBox folder at ~/DropBox.
2. On the Studio…despite logging out and then back in to the app…when viewing folders or subfolders in the list view most of the files have the icon with the downward facing arrow on it and some have just the cloud icon.
What I want is all files on all computers and while I would really rather have them at ~/DropBox instead of CloudStorage…
Is there an issue with having one computer with the files in ~ and the other in CloudStorage? What's the overall best solution to get it to work the way it used to before the location was changed? Can I switch the Studio out of beta experience and if so will this move the folder back to ~ or can I then change it manually myself.
I'm not sure what forced the change to CloudStorage instead of a location of my choice…but can live with that if I need to.
Thanks,
Hi @Neil Laubenthal, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Could you confirm what version of Mac OS you're running on your devices?
This will help me to assist further!

Up to date Big Sur on everything. DropBox app on the M1 MBP 14 that allows the folder to be in ~ is 154.2.3727, no beta there. Same version on the Mac Studio but beta is enabled there. Both machines were migrated from earlier Intel macs running Big Sur for the Studio in April or so and Big Sur on the laptop in February. The upgrade to Apple silicon app in the laptop did not move the folder but on the Studio it did…and I’m wondering if the different location has anything to do with the sync issues…probably not but who knows.
Hey there, @Neil Laubenthal, sorry to jump in here!
Can I ask you for some screenshots, please?
If you access your Sync tab under the app's preferences on different devices, can you send me a screenshot of what you see there?
Keep me posted!

Hi Megan and Jay…here's screenshots for you. The Studio is an up to date Big Sur Mac Studio and the laptop is an up to date M1 Pro 14 MBP. Both are running the same up to date version of the app…the laptop still has the folder in my homedir while the Studio moved it to CloudStorage…and the icons on the various folders in the DropBox folder are different and it look like the Studio doesn't actually have local copies of all files despite that being selected.
As previously noted…not all folders from the Studio are fully syncing to the laptop. In addition…since the M1 version of the app supposedly forces the folder to CloudStorage…I'm confused why it's still in ~ on the laptop. I would actually prefer to have it in ~ but cloud storage would be fine…I just want it to be the same on both computers (as well as my wife' laptop which also connects to the same account. Her laptop is an up to date Big Sur M1 Air with up to date app and her folder is still in ~ as well…and the screenshots and prefs on her laptop are set the same as mine.
If I need to fix the laptops…so that they put the folder in CloudStorage…what's the proper process to get that to work. Neither laptop has a CloudStorage folder in ~/Library.
The only difference between the way the Studio is setup and the way the laptops are setup is that the always logged in account on the Studio is an admin account and the laptops are normally used with a non admin account as our daily driver account…otherwise preferences are set the same.
Laptop screenshots first.

Should have added this to my previous…I want all files available offline on all of the computers. Drive space isn't an issue but we travel and have no internet access frequently so having all files local is vital.
Still looking for a solution here…uploaded screenshots as requested.
Hi @Neil Laubenthal, would it be okay for me to reach out via email, in order for us to have a look into this?
If you have already tried opening a ticket, feel free to let me know the number, so I can locate it on our system. Thanks!
