How do I change the ownership of the files I’m adding to my Dropbox? When I add files it shows that someone else is the owner.

Hey there @El brown, welcome aboard!

I'm not quite sure about the issue at hand. Could you provide some additional information or a screenshot of what's troubling you?

Thanks a bunch!

Does "ownership" have any meaning for dropbox, or does ownership restrict rights to change to the "owner" or does it just mean "original writer"?

Somehow our company files have one of our employees who is leaving as owner, and I am listed as 'can edit'.

How to I change this?

I cannot keep asking her; she was great, etc., however, ownership needs to revert to our office.

Hi @commenterprise dana

There is only 2 ways - ask her or remove all the files from that folder and start a new one. Telling everybody to manually leave the other one.

If she removes all the files from that folder, do WE risk losing them also?

If I (owner) manually leave this one and create a new one, can I copy all files to the new folder and reshare with new employee?

Do I have the right to copy if I am not an owner..?

I'm nervous about losing them..

If she deletes them before you take them out or copy them then yes, you'd also lose them. But if you do it before you'll be fine.

So do it now - set up the new folder and copy everything in. Then leave the old one 🙂

I created a file to test before the transition.

When I copy it onto my desktop file the extension reads .pdf.webloc

When I delete the file, the one on the desktop also deletes. When I open it, it opens to the shared dropbox...

Arghh! Spending WAY too many hours on this.

Any other suggestions? Is it because I've been marked as 'can edit' and she is 'owner'.

?
