Multiple Accounts
60 TopicsFeature Request: Support Multiple Dropbox Business/Teams Accounts (Multiple Tenants) in Desktop App
Hi Dropbox team — I’m posting this as both a long-time Dropbox user and a business owner. Today, the Dropbox desktop app only allows seamless use of one Business (Teams) account (plus optionally one Personal account). This creates a major problem for users who legitimately operate across multiple organizations. Real-world use case Many professionals today are involved with multiple companies at the same time, including: Business owners with multiple entities Holding companies with multiple subsidiaries Consultants / advisors supporting multiple clients Board members and fractional executives PE / investment professionals working across portfolio companies In these cases, we often need separate Dropbox Business tenants for security, compliance, and clean separation. The key point I am not asking for a workaround or a discount. I am willing to pay for multiple Dropbox Business subscriptions — but Dropbox currently does not provide a seamless way to run multiple Business accounts in the desktop app. What competitors already support Microsoft OneDrive/SharePoint supports multiple tenants cleanly, for example: OneDrive – Company A OneDrive – Company B Both sync simultaneously and appear natively in File Explorer/Finder. Dropbox currently forces users into clunky workarounds like: Using the browser for the second tenant Switching accounts repeatedly Creating separate OS user profiles Running virtual machines These are not realistic solutions for modern workflows. Why this matters This limitation is not a “nice-to-have.” It is a core enterprise usability issue and increasingly a deciding factor for businesses choosing between Dropbox and Microsoft 365. Dropbox is losing a valuable segment of customers who are willing to purchase multiple accounts — but cannot do so efficiently due to desktop client limitations. Requested solution Please add support for: Multiple Dropbox Business/Teams accounts logged in simultaneously Separate synced folders per tenant Seamless switching and visibility in Finder/File Explorer Clear tenant labeling and separation Even supporting 2+ Business tenants would solve a massive problem for many professionals. Bottom line Dropbox is an excellent product, but this is a fundamental gap. Many of us want to keep using Dropbox and expand our usage across multiple businesses — but we need Dropbox to support the reality of multi-tenant work. Thanks for considering this — I would strongly encourage Dropbox to prioritize this feature. Edward Cook Co-Founder, McCarthy Cook & Co. Hi there! I've have a free dropbox personal account for 15 years, and at some point added a free Teams account. Several years ago I upgraded the Teams account to a Professional account. ----- Today I got this message, and all my Professional files were taken off my machines (they're still on dropbox of course) Business Dropbox Removed: Your business Dropbox account was removed from this computer because your accounts were unlinked. Your files have not been deleted. ------ I would love to be able to link my two accounts, and continue having two separate dropbox home folders on my machine. Basically, I am leaving the country tomorrow morning and will have extremely limited internet access. I just need it to work how it used to, but I accept that I may need an alternate setup based on whatever Dropbox has changed. When I am signed into my Personal (free) account, it says I have 3TB of space, and the same for the Professional account. Within the settings menu the Pro account is called Personal Account, but when I check the billing plan for the Pro account, it calls it Dropbox Professional. Any solutions? Many Thanks! (too bad this is my only option for customer support 🙂Solved11KViews5likes27CommentsHow to manage multiple Dropbox accounts on the same computer?
I am having no end of trouble trying to figure out the best way to coordinate between different email addresses. I have clients who add me to their dropbox using my current work email, that is not connecting to my personal login. I know of the "link" option, but when I go to it in my settings I get a 404 error. Then, I have a third dropbox connected with my former work--the employer removed all sensitive files but I still need to have access to items that other people shared with me via that email address, and I am authorized to access the account. I use dropbox for everything and had migrated my desktop to the cloud, but now when I changed jobs everything is broken. Is there any way to not have to be constantly logging in and out of multiple accounts--especially when I have it set to auto-sync my desktop with all current-working files, it gets very confused when I have to switch accounts. I really feel like this should be incredibly simple and clear but I'm not getting it! On my work PC I have 2 dropbox accounts synced (my personal and my work account) . I want to fully remove my personal dropbox from the PC without deleting the files of course. I cannot find anything on the windows dropbox app that says anything about syncing (admittedly I am a mac user and still a bit clumsy on windows) and all I can seem to do is delete files but then they are deleted everywhere. I want to completely remove all files from my personal account from only this one computer but keep them intact online and on my personal macbook. I don't understand why this is so unclear but I can't figure it out! I am an admin, and my work email address is the primary login at my company for Dropbox. We have a Dropbox Advanced plan with over 20 users. At some point in time, I was told that if a basic personal account were linked that the personal account would then have access to all the "space" that my employer's account has. Is that true? If a basic personal account were linked, would that account then have end-to-end encryption as well? If the answer to both those questions is no - my question is this - if I were to set up my own personal Dropbox Advanced plan, I understand that I could not link it to my employer account because the type of account is the same. Would I ultimately have to create a separate login on my Mac at home for when I did work for the company, so that login would be connected to the work Dropbox, and then my regular home login could be connected to my personal Dropbox? I ultimately need space and end-to-end encryption for my personal files. Thanks.Solved303Views0likes8CommentsI cannot get both my personal and Business accounts to show up in Windows file explorer
Have just purchased two new machines and am being driven nutts by Dropbox. I have a business and a personal account. On my prior machines both appeared in File Explorer. With them linked or unlinked, I can only get one to appear. HAve Dropbox seriously removed this feature? If not, how can I get both to appear?1.2KViews0likes8CommentsTrouble pairing two accounts on my computer
Hello! For three years I worked with a small company that used a Dropbox team account. For years I've had a personal one. During the pandemic when all of the work was from home and I had to use my own computer for work, I could sync within my own computer both accounts at the same time - having live sync on both folders at the same time. I left that company and now I am back and when I try to sync once again both accounts in the same computer, it appears an error message of please login with your paired account. I have been on my company team account settings, unlinked a previous account that had been linked and once I try again in vain as the message keeps repeating. Am I missing anything? Once it is linked with one account is it linked forever? Is it an app bug?Solved1.6KViews0likes5CommentsCan I sync two personal accounts on one computer?
I have 2 separate dropbox accounts. One is my personal account and one is my Dropbox Plus account for my work (they use separate email addresses). I want to be able to have both dropboxes available at the same time on my imac. I am logged in to my personal account, when I click on the icon in the top menu bar and then on my avatar the only option I can see are to add a Team Account which I don't have (I did try it and it didn't work). There doesn't appear to be an option to log out of my personal account and log back in to the Plus account. At the moment I am having to use my web browser to access the Plus account which is not as easy to use as the desktop app. Is it possible to be logged in to both accounts at the same time or is there an easy way to add the plus account to the app and quickly switch between the accounts using the desktop app?Solved2KViews0likes13Comments
