I am having the same problem as the original poster, and cannot see how the reply could possibly be a solution! I assume the helper solved this off-line. Help! Here's my situation: (1) Smart sync is off. (2) Selective Sync is on. But only the first few folders (12) have the files locally synced. Past that, they are all online only, with the cloud symbol. I have tried unselecting all the unsynced folders, and then reselecting, a single folder, and it simply puts up the cloud symbol for the folder and everything in it, and the app says that the sync is all up to date. But nothing in that folder is locally synced. So, yes, at a certain point at least it seems that the default for selective sync is to store in the cloud; and I don't know how to force it to do otherwise. I'm on a Mac 10.13.6 (High Sierra), and due to an earlier problem (massive) have unlinked all my other devices, uninstalled and now reinstalled the latest Dropbox app, and because of that earlier problem am now working with a relatively modest amount of data, 50GB, 68000 items. I have already tried, several times, linking and unlinking, and, as said, uninstalling and reinstalling with a small subset of what I used to have on Dropbox. Help!
