Hello. Not sure quite how to describe this. I think Dropbox updated its desktop app today. Previously, when I clicked the icon in the taskbar to bring up the app popup, it'd delay a few seconds, then show me the most recently updated files. Now it just...keeps showing the Dropbox logo loading over and over, like a "buffering" icon. Been waiting quite a while for it to start showing my files but it hasn't yet. :/ It isn't an earthshattering issue, I think everything else is working so far, but is this something that will resolve soon? (Maybe even right after I post this...) Thanks.

I'm not sure where to post this since it pertains to the Dropbox website, BUT while using it on a Samsung/Android tablet. It doesn't concern the app so I've chosen this subforum. I just noticed today, while previewing files in Google Chrome for Android, that there's now a HUGE white space taking up most of the screen. It does this both in "mobile" (default) view and in the "desktop site" view. First is the default view, then desktop view: https://imgur.com/MJNbEXP https://imgur.com/HKsnSvU I suspect this big blank space is the equivalent of the "comments" section (right sidebar) when viewing files on the actual desktop site on a laptop computer. This sidebar can be collapsed/hidden on the laptop. I can't remember where it used to be on tablet (I think it was on the right), but it didn't take up most of the screen like this. The file itself seems to still be entirely viewable (you can scroll and search for words), but only in this tiny little space. I don't see any way to collapse this huge white section like you can on the laptop. (You can see a collapse/"hide" arrow on the second, desktop view provided above, but all it does is get rid of the "Comments/Activity" bar; the rest of the white space remains.) Tapping around in the white space does nothing. I tried the same in the Firefox for Android browser, same results. I know one can simply use the app instead (and I do), but sometimes, for certain reasons, I need/wish to use the desktop site on my tablet. So is there a way to minimize the white space to the way it used to be? Also, for some reason, I no longer get notifications on my laptop (Windows 10) when I've changed a file on my tablet and the changed file has uploaded to my computer. :/ I have notifications turned on, so I'm not sure why that's changed.

Hi @Walter, after leaving it on all night it finally finished syncing/indexing everything an hour or so ago. I'll try to see what my bandwidth limit is set at when I turn the computer back on. (I've never meddled with the settings so it's probably on the default.) We have Spectrum cable Internet (WiFi) and unlimited data, I believe.
Notification from Windows: "You have changed 11,199 files." :/ The thing is, I had changed only one text file before this started (on my tablet), and had saved only a few webpages and screencaps during the event (on my laptop). Before turning off the computer I saw that at least some of my files (I think there are actually more than 11,199) were showing as being "recently added" to Dropbox just today even though they've been there for months, so it's like it reuploaded some in addition to syncing/indexing.
I forgot to check them on the laptop before I turned it off but I've checked the website versions of the edited text file and webpages/screencaps and they look to be in order. I haven't opened the Android app yet, though; that number of "changed files" daunts me. Is it safe?
Is there any explanation for what caused this or a way to avoid it happening in the future? Thanks.

A few hours and restarts later I'm still at it, though now I notice if I just sit and lose track of it, it will eventually green-check a batch of files and the number will change...it's just...v-e-r-r-r-y slow. Will leave the computer on overnight and hope it's at least mostly done by the time I get up, since at this rate I'm pretty sure it won't be completely done. :/

Hello. Yesterday for some reason my desktop Dropbox (Windows 10) decided to re-index and re-sync all my files; I'm using only 2% of my 1TB but this is still a lot. I decided to keep the computer on until finished. It's been almost 12hrs now, however, and is still going, partly because it seems like it keeps stalling out. It'll reach a certain number of files to index/sync and just...stop. Stuck on that number.
I've already closed and reopened the program twice. The first time, it did a few more files, then stalled again. After the second restart, no progress, still stuck on the same number of files as before. My Internet connection shows that no data is being uploaded or downloaded. It's literally doing nothing. Says it's syncing and indexing, but is not. (Pausing the sync and unpausing it just makes it worse, then it merely gets stuck on "Indexing," with no number of files.)
I'm getting really frustrated. It didn't take this long even when I originally uploaded the files. I have the Dropbox app on my tablet too but I dare not open it since I made a change to a file in it the previous night (which hasn't saved to the desktop yet because of this issue), and I'd saved a few webpages on the desktop program when I thought it would eventually be finished. I don't want to cause conflicts or make my tablet freak out if it decides to redo everything too, so at the moment, Dropbox is effectively useless to me.
What's more, the desktop program is severely bogging down my laptop, even though it says no data is being transferred!
EDIT, even though the number of files being synced/indexed hasn't changed, it does look like a few more files have turned green. But I still see no data usage in between me restarting the program repeatedly. I don't even know what caused all this in the first place. My computer was strangely slow to start up and my antivirus kept closing and restarting, but Dropbox couldn't have had anything to do with that since it's not set to load at startup. I did try opening it while I was having those issues, though--could that have caused this?
What exactly is going on? Doing what I'm doing seems to be taking incredibly long and is making my computer nearly unusable, as well as Dropbox itself. How do I get it to finish and return to normal?
EDIT, restarting the program a third time... :( Again, a few more files have been done, but the progress numbers haven't changed, and I see no data transfer. I wish I could at least see some progress without restarting; I can't even tell that any files have turned green until I close/restart. (Refreshing the window worked at first, but not anymore.)
(Edit, I'm up to date, version 55.4.171.)

Update. I used the "Device maintenance" feature on my tablet (Samsung) which clears cached/residual files, closes running apps, frees up memory, etc. Then I did a hard shutdown and restart. As soon as I opened the Dropbox app, it marked the problem file as being saved "2 seconds ago," and I got an accompanying Android notification that a file had been changed/saved. Checking the Dropbox site in the tablet browser shows that the file has been updated there as well.
Made another change in the app and it seems to have saved properly.
I usually run the device maintenance every day (I know I did so a day prior to this issue, but not the same day), so I doubt that's the sole cause of the problem, and that wouldn't have anything to do with the "conflicted copy" from before. :/
I'll have to wait until later today to see what happens with the laptop.

Something else I just remembered. The day before this trouble started, when I started up Dropbox on my laptop, I got a notification that it had uploaded this same file, with "Rachel Lea's conflicted copy" added to the filename. It was apparently a duplicate file but not properly synced. I checked to make sure that the original file had the proper changes saved, and deleted the duplicate copy. I figured this was just some weird fluke but maybe it's related.
Also, a few files and folders which I have saved both on the laptop hard drive and to the Dropbox site were strangely moved around at the same time, to folders they didn't belong in, and I had to sort this out and delete a photo folder which mysteriously showed up. (They're my photos, but I don't believe I'd had them saved to Dropbox; I'll have to check my laptop later to be sure.)
No one has access to any of these files or devices but me.

There may be a different issue and not the laptop. Earlier I edited the file on the laptop, and changes saved correctly both to the site and my tablet. Currently I'm editing the file on my tablet, through the Dropbox text editor in the Dropbox app. I opened my tablet browser, went to the Dropbox site, and checked the file version history, then the file itself. And none of the changes I've made in the tablet app are saving to the Dropbox site. It says it was last edited a couple of hours ago when I was on my laptop.
I exited the app, opened it and the file again. Changes are saved there, but nowhere else.
So at least right now, file changes are saving to the tablet, but not to the Dropbox site. Also, strangely, in the app itself just as on the site, it says the file was last edited a couple of hours ago; I can only tell that changes were made when I actually open the file from the app.
So it seems now to be a syncing issue between the Android app and the site. :/ Though I can't figure out why the "modified" time is wrong in the app, too.

Text file I've been editing for several days (without any problems) between my laptop PC and my Android tablet. For some reason, changes I made to the tablet version last night (using the Dropbox text editor) have not and will not save to my PC. The file changes saved to the tablet but not to the PC, despite closing and restarting Dropbox on the laptop several times. Weirdly, even on the tablet it's saying the last time the file was edited was "fifteen hours ago," around 3AM, when I'm pretty sure it was edited since then.
I tried editing the file on the tablet by adding a few words of text. The added text saved (in the text editor--didn't check the HTML viewer)...but the file still says it was last updated fifteen hours ago...and still refuses to sync to the laptop.
I tried creating a couple of other files on the tablet (using a non-Dropbox HTML editor) and saving them between the two devices and they saved, just not this one. :/ (This editor didn't save text formatting like the Dropbox text editor does, so using it isn't preferred.)
Fortunately, I had the section of the file I wished to update posted online elsewhere, so copied/pasted that into the PC version of the file and saved it...that synced successfully to Dropbox and my tablet, but I'm still confused about why the tablet changes weren't saving/syncing...? I switch between the two devices frequently, so this worries me.
PC says I'm using Dropbox 49.4.69, up to date. App version 94.2.6.
