Dropbox Backup
123 TopicsWhy is Dropbox Backup using up 3.5 GB? How can I check what's taking up storage?
Hi, I'm one of the users who suddenly lost god knows how much storage space and Dropbox stopped syncing, even though I keep almost nothing in those folders. I've tried deleting all the shared folders from years ago and whatever else I assumed was taking up space (images, mostly) and I'm still very low on personal files but all topped up in "Backup." Everyone else's posts in the community had their own Backup levels at 0. What exactly is taking up 3.5 GB of space in mine? Thank you!Solved26Views0likes3CommentsSize discrepancy between Dropbox and the content in my drive.
When i look at one of my folders online it says about 840gb. Meanwhile on my external drive locally the file is 874.94 GB How come this large discrepancy. It makes me worried to have my files on dropbox if there may be files left unsynced. It is entirely synced however i recently renamed the folder and im waiting for dropbox to say "synced" before proceeding. My Dropbox shows that over 1GB of space is taken up by backups, but I can’t find any trace of them to delete. I’ve checked the web version, the Windows app, and the mobile app, but there’s no sign of any backups anywhere. The most frustrating part is that without a subscription, I can’t even contact support, and I’m almost certain I’ve gone through every possible setting to locate these backups. Yet, there’s absolutely no indication of where they are or how to remove them. Has anyone encountered this issue before? Is there any workaround to find and delete these invisible backups? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!Solved47Views0likes4CommentsData Loss After PC Factory Reset
Hello - Recently, I reset my computer to factory settings due to a suspicion of hacking. As a result, I had to format my drives, including one that was linked to Dropbox. Before the reset, I checked and believed that the files on this drive had been backed up to Dropbox. However, upon looking today, it appears I have lost a significant amount of critical content; only one file remains in the folder. I am reaching out to see if there is any possibility for Dropbox to recover these files. I would greatly appreciate any assistance or guidance, as these files are of significant importance to me.358Views0likes7CommentsMy account shows there are 33GB of backups, but my Backups page is empty.
Hello, My account shows that it's out of storage, I have only 180MB in regular files and a 33GB backup, but I don't see it anywhere else than in the subscription page. Nothing on the backups page. I can't delete this file to free up the space. Where can I find access to it?Solved314Views0likes4CommentsExceeding Dropbox Basic storage and need to delete any duplicate files
Hi I have exceeded the 2 gb of free Dropbox Basic storage (in UK) - only by a small amount but it has stopped syncing. I do not want to upgrade, so am hoping to delete or find duplicated documents to delete. I only use Dropbox to backup my laptop. The one folder I back up is size 1.74 gb (as found on the Properties bit on the laptop). I have deleted some files but it hasn't made much difference. I just have a feeling I am somehow duplicating back up items. 1) My Personal Dropbox storage states it's full with 733.3 mb 'Regular Files' and 1.3 gb 'Backup'. I'm not sure of the difference here, is there a chance Regular Files are duplicated and included in Backup? Hoping I can delete Regular Files. I have no shared files. 2) As well as my one folder Dropbox says I am backing up 'Desktop', size is 170 mb. Do I need to back up Desktop? Thank you for any help you can give. I used dropbox mostly to share files between my iPhone and laptop or PC. When the suggestion was emailed me to back up all my files in my account, I had thought "Why not?" I soon found out that my account maxed out, and when my account was frozen for having no more space, there were attempts I made to discard the backed up system files, but I've never been able to get any further use of that account. My original account was with sbcglobal.net email address. I eventually linked that with my umich.edu account, and that account doesn't allow alumnus use of the dropbox arrangement the university has. Since my sbcglobal account is linked to the umich.edu account, I cannot get to my backed up system files to delete them. I have a terabyte external backup drive for system files, and don't need them in dropbox. But I cannot use my account at all. Any suggestions?210Views0likes1CommentI cannot find 5.6GB worth of files/folders that Dropbox says I have in my account
I have a basic dropbox with access to 4.8GB (collected through promotion over the years). Looking at all my dropbox folders and files including those shared with me, I hadrly have 2GB worth of files. But Dropbox says I used 5.6GB of 4.8GB available and forses me to upgrade. Well, I am happy to delete the couple of GB to keep my basic account, but I cannot find those 5.6GB. Where do I look? Are there ghost folders? I checked all, including shared... and I am clueless as to where dropbox even sees 5.6GB.... help! 😞Solved653Views0likes3CommentsStorage full because of Backup, but there is no backup?
