I am considering getting a new Mac Mini M4 with a smallish root disk. It is possible to put ones home directory on an external disk. This will allow me to place large space hogs like Photos and Music onto cheaper space. However, will the other space hog, Dropbox be there or will the $HOME/CloudStorage/Dropbox directory still be on /?20Views0likes1CommentDropbox folder on Mac is larger than it appears, why?
Hi I'm quite new to this, so likely being a bit daft, but......... I'm trying to manage storage space on my Mac to enable dropbox to sync. I'm currently seeing a dropbox error message..."Your hard drive space is low - Dropbox can't sync until you free some disc space on your computer" There is a discrepancy between the dropbox folder size 155Gb and it's contents 38Gb. Macbook Pro 16" M4 Max 64Gb/4Tb, Mac OS Sequoia 15.1 I have made 160Gb total size folders online only to free up disk space, Dropbox sync shows "your files are up to date", folder sizes have instantly gone down to zero or close to zero on Mac finder but total disk space has not changed a bit. Any idea? I must say I've had quite many syncing problems with the Dropbox lately and am a bit concerned about its reliability.63Views0likes12CommentsThe Dropbox app on Mac OS can't sync as it's saying my hard drive is full, when it isn't
I'm currently unable to sync several video files (approx 120GB) locally due to dropbox thinking it has no space, even though I see over 800GB of available space on my drive. I'm on a teams account and have tried to show hidden files to find my dropbox cache file but haven't been able to find it to determine if that's why dropbox is confused. See attached screenshots for reference and system info. I need to sync large size files due to my work as a video editor and this is a serious impediment to my workflow at the moment so any support would be greatly appreciated. I'm migrating from an iMac with Mojave to a mini with Sequoia. Time machine run well and installed everything smoothly (of course I have to update some of the apps to the new OS). It looks like Sequoia is not allowing creating folders inside Macintosh hd, so my folders's structure has to be reorganized. There's an issue limiting my flexibility in managing the situation: my dropbox folder is taking up space in Macintosh HD > Users > My Name > Dropbox Any advice? Thank you!24Views0likes1CommentThe extra storage space from the upgrade isn't showing on my desktop app.
So I upgraded my account from 2TB to 3TB. And in the website it shows I have 3TB, yet on the desktop app when I click on 'manage hard drive space' it shows 2TB. Any idea if / when this will update or is there something I need to do? Thanks in advance!Solved48Views0likes2CommentsDropbox uses a ton of hard drive space despite most files being online only
So, I've put ALL my files on online-only because my Mac was running out of space. In my Mac settings, Dropbox takes up 108 GB currently. Once I actually look at what folders are taking up space it's less than 2 GB (you can see in the screenshot what I mean). What is taking up all this space?Solved14KViews3likes51CommentsMy hard drive is full even though I've set my folder to be online-only
Agreed to the new Mac Folders and the sync tells me my hard drive is full and I have all of my folders set for Make online only. Everything shows clouds but when I check my hard drive utility it says all space is taken and normally half my drive is clear. I cleared cache but no help. This is the second time a full sync like this has happened in 2 days.Solved633Views0likes16CommentsOnline-only files still taking up space on hard drive and Dropbox cache doesn't exist
Hi, Im referring to a Mac (OS 14.5 Sonoma) I have 600GB of files that are supposed to be online only, they have the cloud icon and arrow next to them, but still take up the same amount of space as if they were stored locally. They dont seem to be local though as if I want to open a file it starts downloading. I have also noticed that if I remove a file from drop box and delete, and empty trash the amount of storage stays they same, like its still there. I have tried following instructions on here to delete drop box cache but the folder doesnt appear . The only hidden file that is revealed is 41kb file called .dropbox. I would add screenshots but there doesn't seem to be an obvious way. Anybody able to help ??171Views0likes2Comments
