Device My awesome PC Operating System/Browser (if using the web) Win11 Dropbox App Version (if using the app) 238.4.6075 Question or Issue We have old/historical jpeg/photos on drop box. I am having trouble moving, copying, pasting individual photos. When I try to move, copy, delete it seems to get stuck on the attached system process -> Windows says calculating, but doesn't seem to progress further. I also cannot see a preview of these files in the thumbnail/folder, they are just blank, though newer files in the same folder do have the preview image. I am trying to move bulk files though I cannot even move individual files ATM. Its only old files that we've not opened/viewed for years. Any ideas?10Views0likes2CommentsHow can I get the Mac system folder 'Documents' into the Dropbox folder?

I already use Dropbox as my main place to store and back up all of my photos. I intentionally don’t keep photos on my phone to avoid using device storage, so everything lives in Dropbox. The challenge is that my photos are now scattered across many folders, because folders are currently the only way to organize them. While this works for storage, it makes it hard to browse, rediscover, and enjoy my photos the way I can in a native Photos app. What I would love is a dedicated Photos section inside Dropbox that treats photos as photos, not just files in folders. What this Photos experience could include: A Photos tab (separate from folders) Automatically surfaces all photos stored anywhere in Dropbox Folder structure stays intact in Files, but Photos are unified in one view (or maybe we can select which folders will be part of the photo section Date-based browsing View photos by date taken, not upload date or folder location Easily see: All photos from a specific year, Months, days, or events This would let me access all photos from one year in one place, without photos from other years mixed in Map view If photos include GPS metadata, show them on a map Ability to zoom into countries or cities and see photos taken there This would make travel photos especially easy and enjoyable to explore Filters and smart views Filter by: Date range, Location, Media type (photos vs videos), Smart groupings like: “All photos this year” “Travel” “Favorites” Gallery-style experience Clean grid view with zoomable thumbnails, Date headers, Album creation without needing to reorganize folders This would allow me to keep using Dropbox as my primary photo storage solution, while also having a modern, intuitive photo browsing experience, similar to native phone photo apps, without relying on phone storage. Since many users already store large photo libraries in Dropbox, a native Photos experience would unlock much more value from content that’s already there10Views0likes0CommentsExportable & Editable Folder Map
As Dropbox accounts grow over time, folder structures become complex, deeply nested, and hard to manage. Currently, I can view their folder hierarchy in the web UI, but I cannot export it, nor can I reorganize folders at scale without manually dragging items one by one. This makes large-scale cleanup, restructuring, and collaboration planning unnecessarily time-consuming and error-prone. Introduce a Folder Map feature that allows users to: Download a full folder map: Export the entire Dropbox folder hierarchy (folders only, optional files) maybe like a visual map (mind-map style) Edit the folder map in-app: Reorganize folders by: drag & drop, bulk move / rename, nesting or flattening structures(no files are moved yet: this is a planning layer) Apply changes in bulk: Once confirmed, Dropbox executes the reorganization safely: Shows a preview of changes, highlights conflicts or permissions issues, allows rollback6Views0likes0CommentsA Year of Conversations: 2025 Community Wrap-Up
Hey everyone! What a year! I’ve loved chatting with you all throughout 2025 - hearing your favourite Dropbox features, clever hacks and the all the ways you use Dropbox to keep life running smoothly. This community is really pure magic. Every week, you jumped in to help each other, share tips and celebrate wins. We had loads of Community Members of the Month, plenty of Mighty Answer badges and so many “aha!” moments. And the stories! From photographers sharing galleries, to coders syncing across Windows and Linux, to the person who who said syncing across threes computers and two homes was “beautiful” - you all really kept the forums lively, helpful and fun! One iPhone user was especially happy with the 2025 Live Photos update, which finally let them migrate their whole collection smoothly. It was made even sweeter knowing the feature came directly from an idea shared right here in the community. And, I adored hearing how Dropbox helps in everyday life, like the member who said: We’ve had our fair share of community adventures this year, but we made it through together and every time I got to say “I am glad to see your issue was resolved”, it honestly made my day. Last year we gave the Community a fresh new look and glow-up, and we really appreciate everyone’s patience with the changes throughout 2025. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, and we’re even more excited for what’s ahead. There are some fab new updates and improvements coming in 2026… so stay tuned! A huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who got involved in conversations this year. Those who asked questions, those who answered them, and those who felt comfortable sharing ideas, frustrations, clever workarounds, and even honest feelings about Dropbox. And of course, a special shout-out to our amazing Super Users …you’re absolute stars and this community wouldn’t be the same without you. So that’s it from us for 2025! Have a safe and happy time over the holiday period, and I’ll see you all in 202610Views1like0CommentsHow to back up my Dropbox folder on an external drive?
Running Windows 11 Pro. I recently re-installed Dropbox to retrieve files still stored on the cloud. The default install put the folder location "C:\Users\michaelmunson\Dropbox" I attempted to change the folder location by going to Preferences > Sync > Dropbox folder location. I changed the location to the external drive where I wanted it to be. After a LONG time, there was a quick pop up error message that said that not all files could be transferred. (I dont know which ones and can't find a log with details.) When I open file explorer, I am still seeing dropbox in the original location (c:\users\) AND the new location (d:\dropbox\). When I check back in preferences under sync, the dropbox folder location is still showing the original (C:\users\). When I tried to do the process again to move it to the D drive, a pop up box noted that there was already a desktop.ini file on the D drive and it could not move the files. Any idea of how I can get dropbox to show up ONLY on the external drive? I ONLY want to be able to download ALL of the content to the external drive. I dont' need it to sync and don't plan on having this as a dynamic file location with new or changing files. This is simply a back up of prior files. Thanks for any help. michael33Views0likes2CommentsCan I archive files in my Dropbox account?
Hi I am trying to figure out how to archive Dropbox files and I am reading conflicting information. Some posts say you can archive files in dropbox and other posts say not. Anyone know the answer? I've read the Dropbox help and that isn't massively clear tbh 😞 ThanksSolved6.7KViews1like4CommentsI use a Windows device, and my Dropbox files take 7-10 seconds to open in my File Explorer.
recently i have had issues with dropbox (db) opening files extemely slow. i figured it was my computer so i bought/installed a new 1tb solid state drive, reformatted, re-installed everything.. and it still opened slow, like 7-10 seconds per file (yes, can drive a man nuts). i decided to do a little troubleshooting and copied a file to my desktop to see if it still opened slow and BOOM.. flew open. so it looks like its dropbox that is having the issue. my dropbox folder is located on my c:. we live in the woods and have satellite for internet (not sure if that matters). windows 10, and brand new dell precision work station. windows defender is disabled (read that was an issue also). the files i mostly use are "autocad" files (.dwg) thanks for the help!Solved15KViews1like27CommentsLinking Excel files in Dropbox without changing their path.
We just switched to Dropbox for Business. We have several Excel files with formulas that link to other Excel files all saved in a shared folder. With our local server the links would work for every user the same. Now with using Dropbox, the link will work for one user and not for another user. If the 2nd user changes the file path to make the link work for them, then it will no longer work for the first user. How do we make it so all users in the shared file can open the Excel file and have the links update without having to change the file path for each user?Solved14KViews2likes3Comments
