Having this issue over the past several months. Saw another thread where others were having the same issue, but that thread was locked. I copy a file from one subfolder in Dropbox to another subfolder on my Sonoma 14.5 Mac, (Dropbox v199.4.6287) and then I can't rename the file. This doesn't happen every time, but has happened a couple of times in the last 4 months since Jan 2024, and may have started happening before that. Other files in the same folder have the Dropbox Quick Actions context menu items when I right click on them. This file does not. I can open the file, change contents, and save, and that works. I can copy the file with a ctrl-c / cntrl-v in the same folder, and then the copy of the file appears to inherit the same problem, I can't rename it either. I can delete the file. A menu item "Do not sync" is not available in the right click menu for this specific file, although not in the Dropbox Quick Actions section of the right click menu. If I quit the Dropbox app, still can't rename the file, start Dropbox back up, still can't rename the file. Force quitting the Finder, which then automatically restarts, all the finder windows ... does work! So letting others know this is a workaround for this problem rather than rebooting the whole computer, which also works. But this does appear to be a bug around something with file copying in Dropbox folders, unless it's a Mac OS level bug. I noticed after restarting the Finder that the little green circle with the check-box next to the filename is back, which wasn't showing before, so there was something going on with Dropbox integration with the finder perhaps.2.1KViews0likes34CommentsQuestions about using Dropbox on an iPhone as a new iOS user
Just bought an iPhone after years with Android Phones, rather confused with the way Dropbox works with an iPhone. Appreciate some help and advise. A) On an Android, copying a folder from Dropbox to the Phone is a simple select and copy. Found out that for an iPhone, I must first download all the files in the Dropbox folder. Then only can I copy the folder into the iPhone. 1. Is my understanding correct or have I done/experienced something wrong here? B) When on holiday, I used the phone as a camera for photo taking. On an Android, after a day of photo taking, I will moved all the photos from the folder DCIM (this folder saves all of the photos that is capture using the phone’s camera) into a newly created folder named yyyymmdd in Dropbox. The original photos will then be deleted. 2. How can I do something similar on an iPhone? C. This may not be a Dropbox related question, but in case any iPhone experts come across this post :D I have copied an existing folder from Dropbox to my iPhone (Foler name : Fav_Photos). I will also be adding photos and videos into this folder progressively as times goes by. - On an Android, the gallery app (app name: Aves Gallery) will immediately notice any new images and populate the gallery. - Understand that Photos is the official photos app but none of the images and videos is detected/shown in the Photos app. 3. How should I proceed to enable the Photos app to auto populate with photos and videos from folder Fav_Photos? 4. Should I be using a separate gallery app? Which app? Thanks in advance for any help and advice.34Views0likes3Comments- 1.9KViews12likes19Comments
Can I rename the Dropbox folder to flatten the Dropbox folder path?
Hello Dropbox community! Does anyone know if this possible? Can I take my existing folder path and flatten out the folder path? I would like to rename my "Dropbox" Name to Folder1 Existing - C:\Users\Name\Dropbox\Folder2 Proposed - C:\Folder1\Folder2 The end goal is to zip the "Folder1" and extract it to a computer that doesnt have dropbox and the contents of Folder 2 is linked to the "C:\Folder1\Folder2" Directory. Thank you everyone!22Views0likes1CommentAllow us to select the folders whose photos we'd like to view under the Photos tab.
------------------------ It would be very helpful to have the option to select which directories to include or exclude in the "Photos" section. We often store images or screenshots in specific folders, and these end up mixed in with our main photos, creating visual clutter. Being able to limit the display to only the directories that actually contain photos would help maintain a more organized and focused experience. Does anyone suggest any third party apps to help with duplicate files? I've got a MacBookPro..going from Dropbox Business to Dropbox Essentials and I don't want duplicate files. So going thru thousands of files individually is not going to happen. Thanks18Views0likes1CommentDuplicate Folders in Shared Dropbox - Deleting One Deletes Another
We’re experiencing an issue with our organization’s Dropbox where duplicate folders appear, and when we delete one, the other also gets deleted. Specifically, we have a main folder that contains subfolders for various reports. These subfolders were moved into the main folder (not copied), but now duplicate copies of these subfolders are also appearing outside the main folder. The strange part is that if we delete a subfolder outside the main folder, the corresponding subfolder inside the main folder is also deleted. Has anyone encountered this issue before? Any advice on how to resolve it would be much appreciated! Thank you!33Views0likes5CommentsIs it possible to differentiate between speakers in a Dropbox AI transcript?
Hi, all-- I do a lot of online interviews and am trying to improve my workflow for processing them. I've tried Otter, Dropbox, Word 365, and probably others. I record the interview on Zoom, then upload the audio file. Dropbox transcription is super-easy to use with Zoom, and the transcriptions are more accurate than Word365, with fewer spurious breaks between phrases. BUT: It seems to lack a feature that is indispensable for me: Having the name of the speaker at the beginning of their comment. Word defaults to Speaker 1 and Speaker 2, then lets me change each to the person's real name. This is standard for professional transcripts. Is there a setting or something that I can turn on in Dropbox/Capture so it captures and labels the changes in speaker? If not, is there a workaround? Or is the workaround "use a different program"? I am on a MacBook Pro M4 running Sequoia. TIA, --NC14Views0likes1CommentI don't see a list of my folders when copying/moving files on the Dropbox website again.
The Folder List will not populate when trying to copy of move files on the Dropbox website. I wish Dropbox had told me what the problem was the last time this happened. After way too much time addressing it then, issue just went away and resolved itself or Dropbox did something to fix it without telling me what it was. I'm actually a bit angry now that I wasted over an hour selecting items to copy only to get the same problem again (Chrome Aw Snap error and Edge page-problem errors after waiting for Folder List to populate) still with no idea on how to solve it other than to rant on this Community. Then wasted at least another 40 minutes just documenting the problem and putting together this post. I have done all of the troubleshooting (screenshots below), restarted laptop and used 3 different internet carriers. Folder List will not load on Chrome and on Edge (on regular, in cognito, and with extensions removed). Oh, in case you're wondering, my laptop has plenty of storage/capacity available. This is now a recurring Dropbox problem. My project should have been done hours ago but now I guess I'll have to go back and WRITE DOWN the file numbers from the Dropbox website and then do the copying on the laptop app. (I cannot do this project on the laptop app, because I need to see the photo/file details to know which ones I need to copy.) Please fix this (again) and then let me know what is causing this problem to recur so next time it happens I can fix it and avoid another project delay and then wasting even more time having to put together a Community post. Thanks....again!27Views0likes3Comments
