Space and storage
60 TopicsWhy do shared folders take up my own account's space?
I'm working for someone who has a dropbox pro acocunt unlimited account. However, it won't let me upload to his dropbox because I have a free account and limited storage. I work for lots of people I can't join every storage solution out there. He has paid for pro, I should be able to upload to it and it should not count as part of my digital storage. I'm uploading images for him to use, into his dropbox acocunt, my account should not have any bearing should it? If it does its a very very stupid bit of product planning. Or have I misunderstood the messages I'm getting? Cheers JohnSolved7.4KViews5likes3CommentsShared folders, why do I have to pay for someone elses files?
Someone sent me files on dropbox, to access I had to sign up for an account, fine. But now dropbox says my account is full and I need to pay to upgrade. I have never uplaoded a file to dropbox, so my account is not full. I can only assume dopbox wants me to pay for the files on somone elses account. If this is the case this is an absolute con, they are already being paid for the storage by the other user, why should I have to pay to access them?Solved4.8KViews5likes1CommentWhy do shared files count against my space use???
Why are files shared with me counted against my space usage? Is this data counted twice? If someone who is sharing files with me is paying for this space, why should I have to pay as well just to access it? I am out of space, I have no intention of buying more space, and yet, when someone shares some files with me, I cannot access them and I am forced to buy space in order to access them. Why is this? Thank you.Solved26KViews4likes144CommentsWhy can't I add more than 2GB of shared content to my account?
Dear community, A friend of mine has shared a dropbox folder with me and he is paying to have 2TB of storage. However, we thought that when he shares the folder with me I am also allowed to upload more then 2GB of data into the shared folder (since it belongs to him), however, this does not seem to be the case I cannot upload more than 2GB? Do you know anything about this? Any potential solutions would be much appreciated! Best, FlorianSolved4.9KViews2likes10CommentsCan't sync (not enough space)
I am experiencing messages that my hard drive is full. I use a Mac Mini. My harddrive is not full at all. I cannot open Word files that are stored in Dropbox: Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions. * Check the file permissions for the document or drive. * Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space. * Open the file with the Text I am receiving messages that my outlook has to close because there is not enough space. I am unable to install the latest MAC update as it says it does not have enough space to install. when I right-click on folders that are stored on Dropbox and look at Smartsync, where I've chosen On-line only no longer has a checkmark beside it. It seems to be confused about Local, which I don't want and don't have selected. The syncing isn't working because it says there is not enough space to do it. So I just keep going around in circles. Thank you.Solved7.3KViews2likes19CommentsCharged storage for shared content
Hello, I keep getting messages to upgrade my drop box because it’s full. My drop box account does not have any files stored in it, everything is shared from someone else’s premium Dropbox account. Why is it taking up space in my personal Dropbox and trying to charge me for the shared space and the person who is hosting the content for the same amount of space being used? They pay for the storage of their files and shared it with me why should I have to as well if they pay for it. It’s not being saved twice it’s being saved in their account?Solved1.9KViews1like7CommentsAccessing a Shared Folder using Free Account
Help! I have a client that uses Dropbox and has shared a folder with me (4 GB currently). In order to access the folder, Dropbox said I need to sign up for an account. I signed up for a free account but now Dropbox is saying I can't access the shared folder because it is too big. Do I really have to buy a silly account to access a folder that isn't even mine? This folder is the only thing I am going to use Dropbox for, so I really don't want to have to pay for something I don't personally need. I'm doing this work pro bono because they are a nonprofit and would hate for either of us to have to pay more than necessary to just access shared photos and videos of rescue animals. Thanks for the help!5.3KViews1like4CommentsDropbox taking up "other files" Disk Space on MacOS
Hey, I have an issue with the Dropbox Smart Synch function on my MacBook Pro M1 2020. Until recently everything worked just fine, I also have the "Smart-Synch-Update for Mac" Box checked in the settings. But now, when I synch a file or folder to "online only" it will do that and show, that the file has 0 Byte. But simultaneously my "other files" space in the MacOs Disk Space Tool increases so that I have about 250GB of "other files" on my system, that are no where to be found. Even if I search everything on my Mac there is no folder that is so big. Can anyone help me?3.1KViews1like13Comments
