Space and storage
60 TopicsWhy do shared files count against my space use???
Why are files shared with me counted against my space usage? Is this data counted twice? If someone who is sharing files with me is paying for this space, why should I have to pay as well just to access it? I am out of space, I have no intention of buying more space, and yet, when someone shares some files with me, I cannot access them and I am forced to buy space in order to access them. Why is this? Thank you.Solved26KViews4likes144CommentsUpload Error (server error) - Tried Multiple Browsers
Hi, I've been trying to upload a collection of 15 .mov files and the last 3 files will not upload. I keep getting an error (shown attached) saying there's an upload error (server error). I have space remaining, I have tried multiple browsers and computers, I have tried to uplaod to different folders within my account, and I have made sure the file is playable and not currupt on my computer. Can anyone help? ThanksSolved12KViews0likes5CommentsCan't Move the Dropbox Folder to Ext4 or NTFS partition
I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. In response to the change in dropbox file system support, I created a new partition on my hard drive to store my dropbox files in. It's 2 GB larger than my maximum dropbox space. My main partitions are all Ext4, but my home partition is encrypted which apparently doesn't work. This new partition was made without any obvious encryption option. Trying to move the dropbox folder, using dropbox > preferences > sync > dropbox folder location, and selecting a folder on my new partition returns a system incompatability error (see screenshot) I reformatted the partition to NTFS, but dropbox refuses to move the folder, with the same vague error. I looked through the circuitous FAQs this error links to, as far as I can see there's no other special circumstances to my setup. I'm just a guy using linux who doesn't want to reinstall his entire OS, and is about ready to cancel his dropbox subscirption.Solved11KViews0likes11CommentsWhy do shared folders take up my own account's space?
I'm working for someone who has a dropbox pro acocunt unlimited account. However, it won't let me upload to his dropbox because I have a free account and limited storage. I work for lots of people I can't join every storage solution out there. He has paid for pro, I should be able to upload to it and it should not count as part of my digital storage. I'm uploading images for him to use, into his dropbox acocunt, my account should not have any bearing should it? If it does its a very very stupid bit of product planning. Or have I misunderstood the messages I'm getting? Cheers JohnSolved7.4KViews5likes3CommentsCan't sync (not enough space)
I am experiencing messages that my hard drive is full. I use a Mac Mini. My harddrive is not full at all. I cannot open Word files that are stored in Dropbox: Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions. * Check the file permissions for the document or drive. * Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space. * Open the file with the Text I am receiving messages that my outlook has to close because there is not enough space. I am unable to install the latest MAC update as it says it does not have enough space to install. when I right-click on folders that are stored on Dropbox and look at Smartsync, where I've chosen On-line only no longer has a checkmark beside it. It seems to be confused about Local, which I don't want and don't have selected. The syncing isn't working because it says there is not enough space to do it. So I just keep going around in circles. Thank you.Solved7.2KViews2likes19CommentsWhy can't I upload into a shared folder?
I was invited by another Dropbox user to share files with him into folders on his account that he created. He pays for a ton of storage. But when I upload anything into his folder, it counts against my basic, free account and I keep getting a 'run out of storage' error. How can I share files with the user requesting them and use HIS storage and not mine? Thanks so much!Solved6.7KViews0likes8Comments
