I have an external drive connected to my Mac (iMac 2020. Big Sur 11.7.9. Dropbox 183.4.7058). The drive shows up on the desktop and there're no issues with it. Approx 2 weeks ago it stopped syncing via Dropbox. When I go to Backups - status shows "error....can't backup device. Unplug and try again" I've tried ejecting and reconnecting drive & reinstalling Dropbox. Nothing works in terms of getting Backups to recognise that it's connected. When I click on "manage backups" the drive doesn't show up there. I have now started making a duplicate backup of the drive - this new backup does show up in "manage backups" . When I click on the desktop Dropbox icon it shows up there under "sync and backups". However - in Backups, it also show "error - can't backup this drive" under status. Is it possible to reconnect this original backup so I don't have to sync 2.5TB again? See screenshots - original backup is "Lacie 16TB", duplicate backup is "Lacie 16TB (1)"660Views0likes9CommentsHow to undo an accidental backup to Dropbox?
A couple of months ago I must have accidently hit a key where it seems my complete computer is backed up to dropbox. I'm on a Mac and my "Documents" folder now has a Dropbox icon and it seems each file is no longer located on my mac but on Dropbox. So I depend on internet speed for access to the files. I have solved part of the problem by making all my folder "available offline" which, I assume, restores my Mac the way it was before. But I would like to permanently disable this automatic backup and have my documents folder looking the same way it was before all this happened.769Views0likes5CommentsA bunch of my files went to Zero Bytes on Mac
This issue was posted here like five years ago by a different user and the fix worked for them but I've encountered the issue now and the fix isn't working. Basically, I've got a new Mac, synced all my files from my old Mac but they're mostly showing up as Zero Bytes and they're not openable. I tried going to my preferences->Account->holding down the alt/option key and clicking "Fix Permissions". It prompts me for my computer password, I enter it, it seems to work but doesn't. So I do it again, then I receive the error message in Dropbox: "Dropbox was unable to fix permissions in your Dropbox. Please contact support if the problem persists." I'm on the basic plan, so I don't have access to proper support (bad show, guys) so I'm hoping someone can help.46Views0likes6CommentsAllow Dropbox Backup to backup a second internal drive
Most of my files (550GB) are stored on a second internal drive D. I planned to use Dropbox Backup to secure them. Unfortunately this does not seem to be possible for the time being. I find this weird since the app already can backup external drives! Leif Andersen, prof., Denmark10Views0likes1CommentScheduled camera uploads
I would like to schedule my Camera Uploads so that I have a chance to remove/organize things before they're uploaded. Ideally I could have options to set either the time or frequency - i.e. 2am every day, or "any item older than 6 hours." Two examples (on android) today: Sometimes I take 2 or 3 photos in order to choose the best one and delete the others. But even if I delete them quickly, dropbox is too efficient(!) and they've already upload there, where i have to clean them up again. If I take a screenshot and then edit it to add, say pen coverage, it uploads to dropbox as 2 files, even if I save over the original locally. Often I'm annotating an image to text to someone, but don't need it backed up in dropbox at all, so I'd delete it before uoload.31Views1like3CommentsNo files, but 5 GB of storage is taken by a backup. Where are my backups?
Good day, does anyone know how it is possible that when you empty your entire dropbox, 5 GB of space is still 'used'? It turns out to be a backup, but I can't find the backup storage anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find this?Solved34Views0likes2CommentsCan I back up my new external drive to Dropbox without re-uploading my old backup files?
I'm using Dropbox Backup to backup about 1TB of files on an external drive. I'm replacing the drive, and I've already copied the files to the new drive. Now I want to tell Dropbox to backup the exact same files, but on a different drive. I'm afraid if I just remove the old drive from the configuration and add the new one, it will remove all the files from the cloud, then re-upload them from the new drive, a process that will take several hours. Is there any way to avoid this?32Views0likes3Comments
