247 Topics--> Did you know... you can search for images using just text?
Hello Dropbox Community! My name is Lainie and I'm a Product Manager at Dropbox. Every now and again, I am going to post a "--> Did you know..." to 1) keep you informed of all of the cool technology that exists at Dropbox and 2) gather your feedback on how the features are performing. In today's, "--> Did you know..." I'll be talking about Image Search! Image search is allows you to use the Search Bar to search for the contents of the image using words to describe the image. For example, if you search for "cat" your search results will show files that 1) contain the word "cat" in the file name or body, AND 2) files that contain images of cat. No mention of the word "cat" is necessary! Pretty cool! If you haven't yet, I recommend that you check it out. Please respond to this thread and let me know... A) Did you know this feature existed? Do you use it? B) How can we make this even more useful for you? Have a great day! Dropbox randomly updated to some new version and said everything is moving to Library/CloudStorage or something like that, now I can't open files directly in Spotlight OR find using folder search in Finder (although global search "This Mac" works). Biggest issues: 1. Searching using spotlight and clicking on it DOES NOTHING! 2. If I am in a folder within Dropbox folder on my Mac, and I want to search for a file IN that folder using Finder, it doesn't find any file if I search using the search box in Finder, I have to click "This Mac" to find files but it finds files from EVERYWHERE when I only want to find files from within that specific Dropbox folder that I am currently in How do I fix this? I need this functionality working ASAP ! Moderated edited to remove swearingSolved9.3KViews9likes34CommentsCan't Drag and Drop into Dropbox from Finder Sidebar
I hope this is the correct place to post this. I commonly drag things from a local drive into Dropbox in Finder, using the sidebar, usually to upload for client access. It is a common enough action that the following problem is a significant workflow hampering. When I try to drag things into dropbox using the sidebar, it won't let me. A slashed-through circle icon appears. Why is this? Is it a permissions thing? Can this be fixed? I know it does no good, but I must be allowed a short rant. Dropbox worked FINE. I don't know why this new "update" needed to happen (demands of Apple's increasingly strict OS updates?), but it is just so frustrating when an "update" is not as functional as previous versions. Now I have to take 10 minutes out of my day to post about this in hopes that there is a fix. There are workarounds, sure, but you do this action 100s of times a day, the extra 3-4 seconds it takes adds up. Also it's a just a dumb problem to be having. Ok rant over.Solved6.6KViews8likes26CommentsHow to get started with Selective Sync
Welcome to the Dropbox Community forum! We're thrilled to have you on board, and we want to make sure you get the most out of your Dropbox experience right from the start. Today, we're going to talk about Selective Sync. What is Selective Sync? Well, selective sync is a feature in the Dropbox desktop app that allows you to remove specific Dropbox folders from your hard drive so you can save space on your computer. You can remove the Dropbox folders from your computer without deleting files; the folders you remove from your hard drive remain stored in your account on dropbox.com How to use selective sync Note: To use selective sync, you’ll need to have the Dropbox desktop app installed on your device. To choose which Dropbox folders to store on or remove from your computer’s hard drive: Open your Dropbox desktop app preferences. Click the Dropbox icon in your taskbar. Click your avatar (profile picture or initials) in the top-right corner. Click Preferences. Click the Sync tab. Under Selective Sync (Windows), click Modify or Select folders to sync to this Mac (Mac), click Modify. Check the folders you’d like saved on your hard drive. Uncheck the folders you’d like removed. Click Update. What is the difference between selective sync and online-only? Making your files and folders online-only also helps save hard drive space. These files and folders will still be visible from your computer, but are stored in your Dropbox account online. Based on how you use certain files and folders, they can automatically be set to online-only. That's it! Now you can save valuable space for things that matter most to you, and learn how other Dropbox features can improve your day too! So, what do you want to see from us? Hi Dropbox community! I'm a product manager at Dropbox working on the search experience on dropbox.com. Paid users already have access to advanced search features like full-text search, OCR (searching for text within images), full-text search, and image search (searching for objects within images). However, this can often return a lot of results leading to a poor experience having to wade through and find exactly what you're looking for. So, we're happy to announce that we're adding a few new operators to help you retrieve your files/folders more quickly: title:(new lead) => See results with only the specific words in title of the file title:"new lead" => See results with exact phrase match in title of the file. Note that quotes only work with title searches and can't be used to match on content type:image => Filter results by a certain types like image, video, document, spreadsheet, etc. type:jpg => Filter results by a certain types like file extension like jpg, png, docx, etc. before:2022-01-01 => Allows you to see all content before a certain date. Uses YYYY-MM-DD format. after:2022-01-01 => Allows you to see all content after a certain date. Uses YYYY-MM-DD format. lead AND new => AND operators will show results that contain both words. lead OR new => OR operators will show results that contain either words. To use these operators, login to Dropbox.com, click on the searchbox at the top, and start typing your query. You can learn more about our operators on our help center article here: https://help.dropbox.com/view-edit/search Note that there are some limitations: - This feature is Web only (for now) - Searches may return inaccurate results for contents of a file, certain images, and Paper docs if you're using the old release of Dropbox Paper. - Quotes will only work on file titles, not matches on content (for now) Try it out and let us know what you think! Thanks for your patience as we ship new features to improve your overall Dropbox experience! Rhut4.2KViews7likes2CommentsTell us what you think of the mobile search improvements

Hi Dropbox community - I'm a design researcher here at Dropbox. I'm curious about how you access Dropbox! How do you access Dropbox: the website, the desktop app (for mac/windows), and/or the mobile app (iOS, android)? For those you use, why do you use them? For those you don't, why not? Is there anything you wish you could do on one that you can't today? Why?9.7KViews6likes11CommentsDropbox Unlinked My Accounts Suddenly
Hi there! I've have a free dropbox personal account for 15 years, and at some point added a free Teams account. Several years ago I upgraded the Teams account to a Professional account. ----- Today I got this message, and all my Professional files were taken off my machines (they're still on dropbox of course) Business Dropbox Removed: Your business Dropbox account was removed from this computer because your accounts were unlinked. Your files have not been deleted. ------ I would love to be able to link my two accounts, and continue having two separate dropbox home folders on my machine. Basically, I am leaving the country tomorrow morning and will have extremely limited internet access. I just need it to work how it used to, but I accept that I may need an alternate setup based on whatever Dropbox has changed. When I am signed into my Personal (free) account, it says I have 3TB of space, and the same for the Professional account. Within the settings menu the Pro account is called Personal Account, but when I check the billing plan for the Pro account, it calls it Dropbox Professional. Any solutions? Many Thanks! (too bad this is my only option for customer support 🙂Solved10KViews5likes27Comments
