dropbox is blocked by firewall, i need to config a proxy, but I can not open preferences, it always connecting... too stupid. Only the Quit menu is work.
I'm having the same problem. I can open the legacy menu and select the preferences item, but the preferences window doesn't open.
I'm running 121.4.4267 on macOS Catalina
@Hannah I was likely at a newer version. Since I couldn't open preferences, the only way I could get a version number was to GetInfo on Dropbox.app from the finder.
I was able get things working again, but to do so I had to reinstall an older version (118.4.460). That let me actually open the Preferences and change the proxy password. The client then updated itself later in the day to 132.4.3800. But the version I see in the Finder still reads 118.4.460.
Also note that I'm also on Catalina, not Big Sur yet.
I used to get notifications from Dropbox when the proxy password failed, but I haven't seen those for quite a while.
@Jay As of right now, yes I can open the preferences. However, this isn't the first time I've had this problem. It happened previously back around v121, and I think on some earlier instances as well. Dropbox starts when it's internally cached proxy password is no longer valid. In both cases I remember in detail, I had to reinstall an earlier version to get to a point where I could open preferences, and then it eventually upgraded itself back.
@Jay The proxy password changes, but when I try to go change it within the Dropbox client, I can't open preferences and thus can't change the proxy password. Most of the time it works correctly, and unfortunately I can't see anything from my perspective that would help determine what is happening under-the-hood that causes the failure.
