Cannot start up Dropbox

Installed a new iMac (running OS 10.13.6) and migrated applications and files from an older Mac (that is still working fine).

 

Everything went well except Dropbox, which refuses to install. I get a message saying

 

Couldn't start Dropbox.

This is usually because of a permissions error. Storing your home folder on a network share can also cause this error.

Please check the system console for more details.

 

 

 

I have followed the instructions that the help button led me to about going to the Terminal and inputting a series of demands, to no avail.

 

I can get at the files in dropbox from my browser.

 

I am inclined to think I need to reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything, not a fun prospect. 

 

Other suggestions?

Hi there, try doing an advanced reinstallation to see if this repairs the app for it to work.

Hi there, try doing an advanced reinstallation to see if this repairs the app for it to work.

Thank you so much! 

 

Following the advanced reinstallation procedure, Dropbox started up, at last. It was still syncing files when I went home, but all was finished and working normally this morning.

BTW, I would like to click the "accept as solution" button but cannot see it.
