Dropbox for MacOS is now ready
I've got Dropbox installed on an M1 MacBook. After upgrading to Ventura 13.0 it brings up a notification. If I click on "Get started" and go through all the steps in the process it appears to work, b...

A week ago, JayV wrote, "Hi @PaulHarder2, could you try installing the latest stable version and let us know how it goes?"
I did that and it didn't immediately solve the problem. But do that. Then search this board for PaulHarder2 and you'll probably be able to find the subsequent sequence of messages that showed me the way to fix the problem. I'm sorry I don't have the details -- I was assuming that this board would be easily navigable via a system of branching threads, like so many others. But, if it is, I haven't yet found the key to doing that. Your best bet is to simply search for me and maybe get the answer. It is certainly fixed on my machine.

I'm not finding any solution by looking up @PaulHarder2. Finding it just takes me back here.

To repeat what I said earlier, my Dropbox got fixed by first installing the latest stable version, then clicking on the notification again and following the prompts. I am now on v166.4.2920, the notification is no longer presenting itself, and my Mac Finder now has a new Dropbox entry in the Locations section of the left-hand sidebar. It worked.

Interesting. I already had the version v166.4.2920 installed that you mention, but I reinstalled anyway and now the issue is fixed. Go figure. Thanks!

Ugh. Spoke too soon. It worked on my MacBook, but not on my Mac Studio. Same loop of installing and ending up with the red exclamation and the message to update to the latest version, even though I just have.

Hey David F.61, sorry to hear about this.
Can you please let us know if you've granted full disk access to Dropbox on the affected device?
If you did and this persists, please send us a screenshot of the app's exact status and version as shown in your menu bar.
This would help us assist further.

David, I don't recall the details, but I seem to remember that there's a specific procedure needed, to upgrade Dropbox on a Mac. I suggest googling to find explicit upgrade instructions.

Yes, Dropbox has full disk access and accessibility. This is what I am seeing after updating. I notice that on my MacBook, it updated and just ran. On my Mac Studio, it asked me to login again.
- aldee3 years agoExplorer | Level 3Walter,I have a related question: Will Dropbox keep working without the update if I have NO ONLINE ONLY files? Two other ways of asking this same question:is it still *necessary* to update? (as opposed to *recommended*?) when one has ONLY OFFLINE files?how long does Dropbox plan to remain backward compatible?I am concerned because I am on an older MacBook Pro for which the last compatible macOS is Monterey. I am also concerned about Dropbox playing well with older versions of iPadOS to sync my files. Thanks!Al

Would it be possible to have some kind of information about when you could expect the "upgrade"? I work with a lot of users on Mac who upgraded the OS over a year ago who have daily struggles.

Hey David F.61, thanks for the additional information there - much appreciated!
Can you try the latest version of the desktop app from this page and let me know how it goes?
If the issue persists, please let me know here and I'll reach out via email to investigate further.
As for your concerns now aldee & TonyEnglund - note that full support for macOS 12.5 and higher has already started rolling out and that this is an update to ensure that Dropbox continues working seamlessly on your devices.
Whenever you're ready, simply click on the notification to receive the update. Just keep in mind the changes outlined here.

Walter , i'm aware it's been rolling out for a long time, and my concern is that there is no way of knowing when you can expect the upgrade. I've been telling my users "it's coming" since long before xmas, and the patience starts to run out.

Walter,
Thanks for your reply some time ago. I got very busy, so I am returning to this issue only now...
Two things:
1. my Dropbox icon in the Finder menu now shows the number 3 (used to be 1 and 2).
What do these numbers mean? Makes me nervous, feels ominous, like at some point it will self-destruct... 😂😱
2. I am NOT interested in ONLINE ONLY. I am a Dropbox Basic user.
(Moreover, the Help file https://help.dropbox.com/sync/make-files-online-only says
this feature is available to all versions except Basic.)
So, can I ignore the reminders to update and continue using Dropbox for offline only?
In any case, my machine appears to automatically update the version, right now it shows 168.4.4802 when I control+hover over the Finder menu icon. The Dropbox folder is still in Favorites. So far my files get uploaded and synced fine, but I am very concerned. It feels like it may soon be necessary to look for another backup service? This would make me very unhappy.
Thank you for your attention.Al
