Editing an Excel file in Dropbox

Is it possible to edit an excel file on dropbox? The only way I see to do it is to download the file, edit it, and then reupload it. Is there any easier way?

Disregard Rick's reply. You can edit an Excel file in Dropbox, even if you're using a public computer. Dropbox has teamed up with Microsoft to provide access to the Office web and mobile apps. The more common Office files (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) can now be opened and edited right from the web or mobile apps. Refer to the following help article for more information.

Excel can edit a file that is in your dropbox-folder on your computer. But if you're using a public computer then you have to do as you described.

A recent update is supposed to allow the editing of Microsoft Office files in my web browser.  I have discovered that some Word files allow for this option, but others do not.  I haven't been able to edit any of my Excel files in the web browser.  The update information I read stated that a new option would be available.  In addition to "Share" and "Download" in the upper right-hand corner, "Open" would be a new option.  It is not available on every MS Office file in my Dropbox.  Why is that?

Hi - we have a shared excel that always opens to the first worksheet in the file.   We'd like it to open ideally to the last viewed worksheet by user, or even if it opens to the last worksheet viewed by anyone it would be fine.   It happens to be a 52 tab file for each week of 2016, and I'd like to spare my team from having to slide from Jan to Oct each time.

Thanks!

That is something that is either controlled by the computer you use or mobile device you use. If you are talking about on the website then no, it isnt possible. Sorry.

When dropbox acquired CloudON - access to eXcel came with it. We have needed to reinstall Dropbox - but it seems that we now need to download eXcel separately,
Is this correct?

you kind of have to get it to show up by downloading the file I think.  I was just pusing buttons and trying things and then the "open button" showed up.  this was on an .odt file even. (open office).  It worked and was edited by excel online.
