Re: Dropbox for MacOS is now ready
For a couple of weeks, Dropbox has had a a red (1) in the menu bar icon and an alert in the dropdown titled "Dropbox for macOS is now ready." Under that it says, "Update Dropbox to use it on the latest version of macOS. Get started." However, the app is updated to the latest version available for download, 162.4.5419 for Apple silicon on macOS 13.0.1.
Am I reading this correctly? Is it telling me there's a new version of Dropbox to download? As that is how I am interpreting it, I've clicked "Get started" and followed the steps, but the message still appeared. Since that didn't change anything, I then uninstalled Dropbox and all settings I could find and reinstalled from a newly downloaded Dropbox installer. That didn't solve it either. Do you have other suggestions?
Thanks for the help.

Hi grantbarrett, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Just for clarification, after reinstalling the Dropbox desktop application, are you still getting the notification in the menu bar?
This will help me to assist further!

Yes, exactly: after reinstalling the Dropbox application I am still getting the notification. I have tried reinstalling both by following the "Get started" steps and by downloading a fresh installer from the Dropbox website.

don't update, as after this update dropbox will behave in a funny way, and dropbox staff will blame on apple OS
Basically there is compatibility issue between dropbox software and apples new macOS Ventura, and dropbox does not have any clue how to fix it.

Hi grantbarrett, happy Monday!
It might sound trivial, but have you tried restarting your device, then starting all over once the device is up and running?
- SamPT3 years agoHelpful | Level 7
have done everything.
Don't give excuses.
I think this issue is beyond your area of expertise.
- grantbarrett3 years agoExplorer | Level 4
Yes, I have definitely restarted the device as part of the troubleshooting process, and for other reasons, to no avail. I have now followed the "Get started" steps at least a half-dozen times, including after restarts. I also restarted after uninstalling the software and before reinstalling from scratch.

I am experiencing the same situation on an M1 Mac running Ventura that I attempted to update yesterday. I get the prompt to update, the update seems to go fine, and then I get an alert and prompt to update all over again. The Dropbox files are clearly not moved from their previous location. Restarts and removing/adding the Dropbox client do not change the outcome.
Assuming this gets resolved, where would guidance normally be posted?

OK, so not 5 minutes after I sent the previous post, I gave it one more try and the update properly kicked in. The only thing that changed on my platform was that I activated my OneDrive client earlier today just to make sure it was working properly on my desktop and remote devices. It's certainly a long shot but perhaps something shook loose since both Dropbox and OneDrive seem to embrace a similar approach to cloud based storage on the Mac (and I know that this change has been "guided" by Apple).
In other words, false alarm (I think). I guess you guys are really on the ball...

Having this same problem on an Intel Mac with Ventura 13.1. Notification of an update persists no matter how many times the installation process is completed.

I'm having the same problem - I've tried many times over several days but the update doesn't complete.

Hi olivervh! Thanks for posting here.
Just to clarify; are you receiving any type of errors during the process, or does it reach a point of progress and then, never completes?
- olivervh3 years agoExplorer | Level 4
No error message, no system changes are made and the 'Dropbox for MacOS is ready' message flag remains no matter how many times I start this process...

Thanks for clarifying that, Oliver.
In this case, do you mind if I open a ticket for you instead? This way, we can look into this further.

Hey CiaoPunto & leonchu886, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Can you please confirm that you've granted Dropbox full disk access as outlined here and that you've already rebooted your computer?
- leonchu8863 years agoExplorer | Level 3
Hi Walter,
Yes, I've turned on Full Disk Access and reboot. Still keeps coming back.
What does it need Full Disk Access btw?Leon
