Why is Dropbox using my external GPU?? Mac

Why is Dropbox using my external GPU?? Mac

I'm on Mac, Catalina OS. My dropbox uses my external GPU when I don't see any reason for it to, which I imagine is the same issue as why Dropbox seems to want to use the discrete GPU on a MacBook Pro. Problem is, with an external GPU, there's an added frustration.. when I eject my external GPU (I do this every day), it will quit Dropbox since Dropbox is using it. I won't notice, which then means nothing is getting synced.

Hey @madmax00178, thanks for posting here today.

In general, the desktop app uses GPU processes to function accordingly. However, let me ask a few things to better help with this:

  • Is the desktop app running slowly or slowing down processes for you?
  • Where is your Dropbox folder located?
  • What's the syncing status of the Dropbox app?

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there.

The app is not slowing down for me, the Dropbox folder is in my home folder (default location), and syncing status is generally up to date. Performance is not an issue, the issue is that Dropbox is using my external GPU and automatically quitting when I eject that GPU.

Is there any way to force Dropbox to use the internal GPU?

Hi @madmax00178, sorry for the tardy response and happy Friday!

If you're still having issues with this, may we reach out via email to have a further look internally?
