blank login screen with dropbox app on windows 7 pc

Hi.  I'v having issues with logging into an existing dropbox account on a windows 7 pc.

If i roll back to version 15.4.22 I can see the login and I am able to enter my userid and password but then it tells me the version of software is too old and i need to download the lastest version.

I've tried the lastest version - 24.4.17 and all I get is a blank screen.  I've tried a few different versions, 18,19 and 20 versions and get the same blank screen.

Anybody have this issue?  Any solution for this?

I have Windows 7 Home Premium and I am experiencing this issue. Mine looks the same as Jimmy's. I tried a stable build 15.4.22 which was suggested here: https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Installation-and-desktop-app/Blank-SignIn-Dialog/m-p/199481/highligh...

The stable build showed the login fields but after trying to sign in, it said I had an old version and had to update. So I did, and saw the fields once with the newest version, but nothing would happen. Closed and re-opend DB and the login fields were gone.

Ouch:

Yes. Switch to one drive by Microsoft. Always works. I gave up on Dropbox for me and my company and made the switch.

Sorry to hear that you’re having trouble getting the latest desktop application on your computers, I’m here to work on that with you &, if needed, further investigate what may be the cause of the behavior you’re receiving. I’m wishing you a creative & prosperous new year ahead!

Just as a first step, I’d like to ensure that Zed’s troubleshooting here hasn’t resolved the issue, so let me rephrase his suggestions below:

  • viktu are you experiencing the same behavior as  Jimmycone9 or is it different for you? Any detail you could include would be extremely helpful (also, I’d appreciate a screenshot of what you’re seeing, so that I make sure we’re on the same page.

Please keep me updated on this thread, so as to fix this together. I'll be awaiting your next replies here!

So I just was able to sign in not using my gmail, but having the same problem.

The thing to remember here is the that the fields to input the information are there dispite not being visible. To test to see if you are having this problem, you can try to click where the "Sign in with Google" button should be. You should be linked to a web page or have a dialog box open. Alternatively if you have another Dropbox account with Google and don't want to sign into that one, you can see if the cursor changes when you hover over where the input boxes for the username and password.

Now that you know you are having this problem, it's simple just input your username and password without knowing what your typing 😄 easier said than done, but I have done it. I recommend making sure that you know your password and testing signing-in online as well as before typing hitting the backspace a few times. Your not going to be able to see if you password it wrong.

Once you have done that you are prompted with another blank box. This is just the Dropbox intro slides. To get passed this you just need to make sure you and the box selected and then mash the 'tab' key followed by the 'spacebar' a few times. Then you should be in.

That’s correct, this is because the login screen for the Dropbox desktop application emulates a browser to render the page.

If the page is blank, then as has been mentioned, a proxy, VPN, firewall, security software, or even ISP/router settings are blocking or restricting connections to Dropbox servers.

Despite that, in some cases the block isn’t complete, so the ‘invisible fields’ for email and password can be clicked there.

Even after you login and get past the tour page, you’re still going to experience sporadic behavior and syncing, since the underlying problem remains and hasn’t been resolved.

Aside from the above troubleshooting for the VPN etc, I’d personally check out your router, since most modern ones have firewalls built into there and could be logging these requests and blocking them.

Try rebooting your router, updating its firmware, or resetting it to factory defaults, after making a note of your broadband username and password.

Other matters to consider are ISP issues, which you would need to check with them since if the connection is affected before your router receives it, there’s little you can do from your end…

Hello

I tried to install dropbox on my computer but it keeps getting frozen.

I reinstalled windows 7 on my computer because it was running slow and i figured a nice factory reset could solve this problem. Not sure why it keeps getting frozen

I tried the solution at teh dropbox forum:

Found my solution:

Close Dropbox.

Get properties of Start Menu Dropbox link, go to Compatability and set it to Windows 2000

Start Dropbox, link account etc. Close Dropbox

Reset compatability.

Bingo

but this did not work. still get the same frozen screenshot.

Make sure all firewalls etc. are off and try an advanced install: https://help.dropbox.com/desktop-web/advanced-reinstall

Yeah, proxies and firewalls do cause these blank windows since they can't make a connection to the Dropbox servers. Keep us posted with any updates!
